I agree with all of those on this site. My son and I were on little Trout Lake on the east side in early July. I had a three way Rig running 30-40' with various lures and got blanked in 2 days. He was running a Deep Diving Rapala style lure (blue gill pattern)(16-20') without a three way rig and pulled in 12 lake trout. Go figure.
Don't rule out vertical jigging around deep water holes. Use a heavy weighetd plastic swim shad (Gary Yamamoto/ Storm/ Gulp/ Savage Gear/ any manufacturer really) I would stick with whites, maybe blue/ white in that area and use the larger 3-4" size or a frozen cisco or large bait fish. Start on the bottom and jig a bit and then move up 5', jig there, move up another 5-10', keep going until your all the way up. Then start again. This worked for us on Sea Gull and other lakes.
We fished Oyster in Late May and did well with 20' range deep dicing Raps.

Hi everyone. We will be up august 10. Hitting oyster and making way to llc. I know lakers are really deep now. Is there any chance of catching one? I understand spring is best but they still need to eat right? Any advice would be great. Thank you

They might not be as deep as you think. A week ago they were still hanging out at 30 feet. This was on a large lake, not as big as LLC, but substantial size.

Don't listen to those who tell you that you need to add snap weights or keel weights or, God forbid, use leadcore to get down deep and catch LT in the BWCA/Q in the summertime. Even if they are "really deep," they'll still come up and whack a shad rap or a tail dancer running 10-20 ft down.
So yes, you can catch them in July and August. For what it's worth, it's my favorite time to catch them, in fact. About two weeks ago I was up in Quetico and we caught 25 or 30 in five or six hours trolling lures that didn't run deeper than 10 ft (using braided line and steel leaders to boot!). All fish swam away with gumption.
