Sven83	08/15/2017 02:29PM   I would recommend baker entry as well. I was up there last September for 4 nights and we had some decent fishing with very little effort. Stayed at the site on the north end of Kelly by the rapids and mostly fished from shore with slip bobber and leeches. Had a great time, quiet area, saw a moose swim across the lake in front of the campsite. Some good "eagle fishing" action which is always fun to watch. If you go this route, make sure you find the old mine on the north end of the Kelly to jack portage. Really cool, lots of interesting junk laying around! This is the view from the northern campsite on Kelly.

I think I am leaning towards the Baker area. You have a point with all the lakes available there and being smaller.
emptynest56	08/15/2017 09:17AM   I agree with FlambeauForest. The Baker Lake entry is a good choice. Lakes tend to be "off", or "on" for walleye. You will have a choice of several, and Kelly and S. Temperance in particular can be very good for walleye. Also there is the wind factor of fall. These small lakes can give you shelter from the wind. You might not like being up in the NE area of Brule if you get a 3 day strong wind, especially with inexperienced paddlers. You can always get in to Brule's SW area from S. Temperance. Kind of leaning to NE Brule and camp near Echo so I can go big or small lake. It was more like I said that I have never really fished for walleye let alone in October so I was seeing if I could get any info. Thanks.
lundojam	08/14/2017 07:06AM   I always use the MN DNR lakefinder site to scout lakes on my route. Lots of those lakes up the sawbill area have good populations of catchable walleyes. We did OK in Alton this summer. October is kind of wait-and-see as far as walleye location; depends on the weather. Those lakes in the Poplar Lake area of the Gunflint can be good, too. Use the search function on this site as well. Type in "Crocodile Lake fishing" or whatever and see what. Good Luck.
FlambeauForest	08/14/2017 08:07AM   3 days isn't long. If fishing walleye is a priority the Baker Lake Entry would fit the bill. Peterson, Kelly, and Jack all have small rapids flowing in with pools below that provide non-stop action. Small narrow lakes wind shouldn't be an issue. Also easy to bring live bait in on this route if you really wanted good fishing.

I on the other hand can go for long stretches but we are just trying to make something work so that he can finally get in there.
x2jmorris	08/13/2017 10:11AM   Headed up on Oct. 6th for 3 days. I've been to the BWCA numerous times but I have never targeted Walleye. I am also bringing two 14 year olds and one other adult who has barely been to the BWCA. So not the most experienced group. So......... was wondering if anyone would share some decent lakes for Walleye...I know its a forbidden question. Not looking for records or anything just to have a decent catch rate. I'm thinking Sawbill area to the Gunflint, not Ely. I kind of looked at Brule but in October with this crew I am not keen on a huge lake. I also glanced at Kelly through maybe South Temperance (Never done this route). I could do Perent but I am already going there in a couple weeks. Anyways thought I would ask.
