Keep in mind the time of year. On my August BWCA travels I've always had much better luck by slowing down my presentation. I'd still catch a few fish here or there while trolling but a slip bobber and a leech in the right location has always been far more successful for both walleye and smallies.
I would also look toward deeper structure this time of year.

A group and I are entering Brule a week from today. We'll going through the 3 Cones and making a loop through N/S Temperance, Cherokee. What are some baits/lures to give a go? Any good spots to try on the lakes? Thanks for the input!

S. Temperance.....all around the islands, find the underwater humps, also the channel headed to Brule. South Cone....the channel headed to Brule, shallow in the middle but pools on each end of shallow spot. Also, with right water depth, there is a pool where back channel small rapids dumps in from Middle Cone into back bay of South Cone. Fish can really stack in there. Cherokee......good luck. Pick up a northern or 2 just paddling around islands and casting likely spots. N. Temperance is spose to be decent but I've only paddled thru a couple times......never fished it.
