I have stayed on the west side of the lake twice. Should fishing proof difficult on the east side, the bays in the Northwest part of the lake are great for bass and a some walleye. You can also find Walleye in the "narrows" in the middle of the lake.
There are also a good population of Pike in Ensign too. Some will attempt to steal your walleye as you reel them in.
Another thing to note is that the lake is crawling with rusty crayfish so crayfish pattern/shape lures work great on the smallies. Should you have a crayfish trap you can have a nice crayfish boil for dinner.

Our group of guys has gone there many times and have done great. I’m talking over 100 Walleye many trips. We camp at the same spots as you do on the East side of the lake. I’m not going to tell you where but how. Use a Leeches on a hook, split shot, slip bobber, or Leeches and jigs, or Leeches and spinners. They all will catch fish. If you use these techniques you will catch fish. We take three pounds of Leeches for our group for a week of fishing. Two leech holders that stay in camp and then a mesh leech bag for every canoe.
If it’s Huge Smallmouth Bass you are after they might not be off thier beds yet. We go the first week in June. I catch a big bass about every 4-5 casts. It’s kind of easy with top water lures like a heddon super Spook or PopR lure.
Ashigon Lake also has bass and pike.
Trident or Triangle Lake on older maps, (Same Lake) has bass too.
Vera has good Walleye fishing too.
All these lakes you want to find rocky points or shallows leading to close deeper water. Look for tight bays that bait fish live that is adjacent to deeper water. The Walleye will move in at 6:00 am and feed on baitfish then go back for the day. Then come back for a snack again at about 9:00 pm.

For 4 years in a row we spent a day and night on Vera on our way back out from Knife. I've had some amazing days and some not so good days for walleyes on Vera. We generally had good luck trolling crawler harnesses to find fish and then pitch slip bobbers with plain hooks and leeches once we found them.

I am taking my family to the BWCA at the end of May. We are using an outfitter on Moose Lake. We will stay on the east end of Ensign so we an do day trips to Ashigan, Vera, Trident, etc. I've been at least half a dozen times, and have never really caught a lot of Walleye. Does anyone have any tips for catching Walleye this time of year. What lakes? What lures? Any tips? Thanks.
