I have had that exact thing happen on Conmee (yes there is both largemouth and smallmouth there ) and it makes me cautious about leaving a lure in the water. I found the bass busting through the ice rather eye opening.
I have several rod overboard stories that are almost beyond belief. Even more astonishing is I got every one back.

I was fishing for bluegills in a farm pond one time when I hooked one on a single hook and started reeling him in. A LM bass grabbed the bluegill, the hook in the bluegill's mouth grabbed the bass and the bluegill slid up the line. I wound up catching 2 fish on a single hook.
At another farm pond, I hooked a small bass on a small floating Rapala using ultralight gear and started reeling him in. Suddenly a much larger bass starts striking at the small bass. I wound up dragging the little bass up onto the bank with the big bass holding him in his mouth. The big bass got about half way out of the water before he turned loose and flopped back into the pond. I quickly unhooked the Rapala from the little bass and just threw it back into the pond. Suddenly I hear the theme music from Jaws and the big bass comes up under the Rapala and nails it. I take my time carefully wearing the bass down and after a few minutes was finally able to lip him. The scales at the house put him a shade over 5 pounds and straight into my personal best on UL gear.

After some stressful paddling around and a mouthful of foul language later, I eventually would spot my rod, fishless, at the bottom of the lake.
Not too many feelings are worse than losing a rod overboard on the first day of a fishing trip. And not too many feelings are better than reeling it in!"
I've caught two bass that hit the lure at the seemingly same time, hooked one bass on a lure and added another, but the weirdest was an unhooked bass that accompanied a hooked bass to the side of my canoe and just parked there, even letting me touch it.

I do have to thank the Master Tangler for the video title. Someone used the abbreviation WTF in a post a while back and MT let us know that meant Where’s The Fish?. Seemed like a good video title.

With my father many decades ago in Canada, I'm about 10 years old. He caught a nice sized pike and he wanted me to net it.
I leave my line and floating lure out, (I think a Jitterbug) get the net and net his fish.
Meanwhile, a seagull dives on my lure, ends up getting a treble hook stuck near it's "arse", and gets all tangled up in the line.
We reel it in, and go through about 5 minutes of sheer pandemonium trying to unhook and untangle the bird, as it's fighting, flapping and snapping at us. Eventually my dad grabs the bird by the neck and holds it's head underwater, which for some reason, made the bird completely "freeze", and allowed us to unhook and untangle it, setting it free with nothing more than it's pride being hurt.
Still laugh about that today. And sure wish they had cell phone cameras back then!

It was nothing like tangling a seagull but I did wrap up a bat once on the back cast with my fly line. It was almost dark and it was a tangled mess so I cut the line. I can still see his fangs. Sad ending for the bat but I figured the chance of getting bit during the untangling was pretty good.
I used to have a big floating plug with no hooks and would let a gull fly away with it and then pull it out of his beak. They figured out that trick pretty quickly. Fortunately nothing bad ever happened just a little seagull harassment.

Have had that happen too. Once it was a bass first and then a musky, which was probably chasing the bass, ate the floating bait after I unhooked the bass. Smallmouths will commonly chase after another smallie that's hooked, trying to steal the meal. Have caught 2 on the same bait, same cast a couple times.

This is a 30 second video from Gahn Lake in September. Kind of stupid but a little funny so you might like it. It is January and we are long way from good bass fishing so I decided to put it up. I edited out a bad word to maintain the family friendly rating. Keep your eye on the lure.

Good fun. I’ve had a couple of days like that where I could see multiple fish going after my lure. They just hang back after the first one is caught waiting for more. One time I caught two small bass on the same lure, at the same time.
