Anyone use this one? A bit on the spendy side, but my local shop says they're soon running a decent sale -- probably just a bit over cost as he's rather overstocked. I'm looking at the 8 inch which says that its 5 amp-hour lithium-ion battery will power cutting through 1,600 inches of ice on a single charge. At only 22 lbs, I would not mind in the least moving away from gas augers, although I have no other real big complaints about my Strikemaster Lazer Xpress.

My cousin just bought that unit. I have not used it but he said it was great ! He used it last week in very cold conditions and was surprised how fast and efficient it was. I think he said he drilled a dozen or so holes through 12 or so inches of ice. Not exactly a true test , but he seemed quite happy with it’s performance.

^^ whether it's a #1 pound propane tank or a battery pack at -30 air temp both need to be kept somewhat warm. i love ice fishing but even i'm not out at -30 temps hole hopping. power to you Dean ;)

i heard with the ions keep the battery pack warm when not in use(sub zero type conditions) , my bud purchased a jiffy pro propane , i think its an awesome unit , 1 pull almost everytime.

I haven't got my hands on an X version yet but we've been using the first version for a while and love it (which you can now pick up pretty reasonably due to the X version). A pretty good test is the annual 4 day trip we take to Devil's Lake ND every year. We move, drill, fish and repeat from sunrise till sunset. The only thing I would suggest is go with the smallest hole you can get by with, we use a 6" and an 8", tried the 10" and while it worked you wouldn't get many holes out of it. I would stay far away from the Jiffy LP. On the same trip about 5 years ago we had 2 brand new Jiffy LP's thinking we were onto something good. Then came -30 temps and between the 2 augers they maybe drilled 4 holes the whole trip. Tried everything the manufacture suggested and they came to the conclusion they couldn't convert the LP at those temps, returned both of them as soon as we got home.

It was no walk in the park but staying at the cabin didn't sound like much fun either. To the original post, the competition is pretty good now days and bad product doesn't cut it for companies. If you can find a good deal I'd say go for it.
