Howdy folks,

I’m looking at an 8 x 12 Ice Trek skid house. I would like to lay it out so myself, my wife and 2 kids can comfortably fish. Not sleeping out there. Just nice and efficient. Maybe 6 holes.

Any advice for floor plan/layout?

Anything you folks might suggest?

This house is a blank slate. An insulated shell with either a door or window on each wall. Just going to be putting it out on the lake I live on. Not hauling it all over the place.

Thanks in advance!!!

Are there things you'd like to have or do you want to keep it a completely open floor plan?

Personally I like having a jackknife couch on at least one of the 8 foot walls, possibly both. Makes for a comfortable place to sit and jig and if you do decide you want to do an overnight you can. Underneath can also be used for storage. Just make sure to test hole location so that its a comfortable distance away from the couch when jigging.

I would also look to put as many holes as is comfortable. If you have 4 people thats 8 total lines you can have down so why limit to 6 if you have the floor space to do 8. If you have extra holes you can always drop a camera down one for fun.

One thing to consider if I like to have 2 holds side by side. One for jigging and one for a set line. Often times the jigging will bring in a fish but they'll only hit the set line right next to it. You could also use the 2nd hole nearby for your flasher so you don't have to worry about getting hung up on it when you reel in a fish.

I would also add either some shelves or some upper cabinets to store gear while you're in the house. Floor space is always at a premium as is seating so you don't want to have tackle boxes, bags, other odds and ends laying around on the floor. If you do shelves put a little lip on them to prevent items from sliding or being bumped off as easily. Things that fall in a fish house tend to find the holes.
