Sounds good.
Do you have any recommendations?

I haven't done a June trip up there. There are several charters out of Silver Bay Marina to choose from. They all seem pretty similar. I'd check them all out.

I was going to book a trip with Tofte Charters once. They look pretty good. We did a scenic trip with them and had a good experience.

This one is a nice big boat for a reasonable price.

Laker Takers seems pretty popular.

One thing to consider is that if it's a late spring or colder than usual and you were going in say, very early June, there could be a chance that the Salmon may still be towards Duluth. Of course the captain will know this and they can run south to find fish too. There is always Lake Trout no matter where or when you go. Another reason Silver Bay is nice is the scenery. With the exception of that gigantic Taconite mining monstrosity, this area really is the most scenic on the North Shore in my opinion. Split Rock Lighthouse and Tettegouche State Park are nearby. I recommend doing some short hikes along the way to see some waterfalls. High Falls in Tettegouche and Caribou Falls are 2 of my favorites. Up by Grand Marais the Cascade Falls are nice. There is good trout fishing in the rivers all along the North Shore and shore casting near the mouths of rivers. The mouth of the Cascade for instance would be a good place to catch Lakers from shore in June.

I chartered out of Tofte once in mid July and it was much ado about nothing...wish we'd found some place to fish inland.

manmountain8: "sns: "I chartered out of Tofte once in mid July and it was much ado about nothing...wish we'd found some place to fish inland." July is too late for that area. In July you'll want to charter out of Grand Marais. June is the only time you'll find Salmon near Silver Bay Marina. May = Duluth, June = Silver Bay, July & August = Grand Marais. " That's a general guideline that can fluctuate due to weather.

Just to let you know, the Salmon start out near Duluth in the early season and gradually work their way North as summer progresses. They do not typically reach Grand Marais until July. You can catch Lake Trout out of Grand Marais anytime though. In June the best place to launch a charter from would be Silver Bay Marina which is about 50 miles south of Grand Marais.

I have a cpl days planned for some r&r in Grand Marais. Been thinking hard about fishing Lake Superior. Anyone taken a charter out of Grand Marais? I have zero experience on this. Will be there mid June. Any thoughts, advice or direction??

In June near Grand Marais you can only target Lake Trout that are deep so they use downriggers. In June near Silver Bay you'll be able to target Kings, Cohos, and Lake Trout in shallow which is a lot more fun.
