Zman ShadZ and Strike King Zulus are the same exact lure. Actually ZMAN produces the StreakZ, single tail jerk shad made from ElaZtech. Then ZMAN sells the lures to Strike King and they rename the single tail lure a Zulu. ZMAN also makes a split tail version and they call it ShadZ. When they sell this lure to Strike King, they rename the lure Z-Too. Same lure, same manufacture, just sold under a different name. I recommend any of these lures for June smallmouth fishing.

Question: Does the Zman need to be in the water to catch fish? What about for bass specifically?

Wow! What a Gator QM! Beauty. Thanks to you I’ve been using jerk shads for spring walleye down here on the Wisconsin river systems. I’m using Northland Slurp Jig heads (Minnow head look, long shank and barbs to hold the plastics on) with paddle tail shads. Slowly bouncing bottom has been producing!

I know your first question is part of the joke, but not sure what you are asking about for bass specifically? If you have specific question about fishing ZMAN ShadZ for smallmouth or largemouth, just ask and I will try to help.

I am not that funny in person and even less so a forum. The whole thing was my attempt at a joke.

Anyone have any tips for fishing The Jerk Shad Z in early June? Primarily small mouth fishing.

I am very familiar with his Zulu technique I'm just wondering if it's the same for the z-man Shad situation.

I never knew about this bait until now. It looks like something I need to add. Do you fish this with a football style jig bounced off the bottom or fish it similar to a senko? Sound like a great small mouth lure but I am sure they would also catch the interest of pike as well.

That would be a good way to fish walleye with a ZMAN ShadZ. No weight in the standard Zulu rig. I use a 1/0 Gamakatsu worm hook ( others like to use larger EWG hooks, but those hooks act like keels and keep the lure from working more natural, plus the hook is flush to the lure and the fish don't see it ), 8 to 10 inches of mono line leader tied off to a size 3 or 4 quality ball bearing swivel. The ShadZ is rigged texposed on the worm hook. Snag free lure. If you would like to read the article send an email to - queticomike@yahoo.com - request the Zulu Magic article. Do a search on Zulu rig on this site to hear more about this rig.
As far as pike go, yes pike are interested in this rig as well. I have caught more than a handful of 40 inch + pike with the Zulu rig.
