David, Pat and Amy your hosts know Little Long very well and can help you out with the fishing. Night fishing is your best bet for walleye. The smallmouths can be caught anytime of day or night. I have a marked map somewhere and will send you a copy.

First off, I would like to say thank you to everyone who gave me suggestions about resorts around the area. My request was a little specific as I recently had an injury (torn Achilles). I chose echo shores resort located on little long lake just north of ely, next to burntside. They gave me a great deal and are able to provide a pontoon boat for my stay.

With that said, I have never fished this lake. The lake doesn't have much structure and gets down to 45ft deep. The average water clarity of this lake is 17.5ft... which kind of has me guessing where to start. I primarily Target walleye and have found that darker/stained water lakes I tend to have better luck in. Heading there Wednesday through Saturday next week. All the help will me much appreciated! I am excited to finally get off the couch and out fishing!

I fished Little Long extensively for 4 summers ten years ago. There are very large fish due to the abundant tulibee population. The walleye fishing can be good for size, I have seen a number over 10 lbs. Quite a few pike over 40 inches and big football smallmouth and largemouth. Most of the groups I hosted fished walleye at night and had good success. Trolling the shorelines can be productive, most of the lake drops quickly to 20+ ft of water within 2 boat lengths of shore. I will try to find my map and post locations. Fish the point entering the "large" bay 2/3 of the way down from the resort on south side. Fish around both islands. People catch walleye off the pier by the boat access. For fun bass fishing, follow shoreline and look for downed trees, some 15-20 ft down. Minimal vegetation in the lake but fish that too. Lots of boulders, mini points and depth changes. Make sure and stop at the portage to Burntside and fill up on the natural spring. Best water you can drink! The resort should be a helpful resource as well. Have fun and happy fishing!

I see your email on your profile. Check it in a day or so. I will send you a picture of some places that were shown to me. I will be in the area sunday 17th. For 2 weeks and plan on fishing little long. Always wanted to never have. I'll be curious how you do... I've heard the panfish can be a problem trying to get your bait down to the eyes.

That's a lot of great information buzz. Thanks man! And Yogi, I would really appreciate that map... looking forward to it! I can let you know how it goes and key you in on the spots that produce for us.

I was thinking about starting at about 15 ft during the day and going a little deeper if that doesn't produce (15 ft and shallower as evening goes on). Shad raps, hot n tots, and flicker shads will be the cranks as well as live bait (leeches).

Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice. It was a great trip and I was able to land some big ones! The numbers weren't the best but the big girls made it all worth it. Overall, I was just happy to get out and fish despite being injured. My 40th Bwca trip will have to wait until this fall. Here are a few pictures from my trip:
