As an FYI, I currently have them set up with medium and medium light rods with slip bobbers or jigs and 8-10lb mono. I also have medium and medium heavy rods with 20lb braid and a 6 foot mono leader for trolling/casting shad raps/top water baits. |

ISUcyclones23: "Heading up to Hungry Jack Lake this weekend to give some friends their first taste of the BWCA. I have never fished this lake and have not seen a lot of talk about it on this forum. Does anyone know where the hot spots are and what they have been biting on recently? Any info is appreciated. We just got back from fishing HJ Tues-Thurs of this past week. Your setups sound fine, very similar to what we used. What are you hoping to catch? I can tell you that a leech under a slip bobber will catch you smallmouth all day long. Just find a rock pile (they're everywhere) and go to work. Our biggest SMB came in about 6 feet of water near the buoyed rock piles on the eastern end of the lake. About 17". There are BIG smallies in this lake, but tons of little ones as well. We never found any walleye. The lodge staff said it was a night bite. Well, these are the longest days of the year so it was getting dark too late for my kid, he could barely keep his eyes open on the boat! We trolled around for lakers as well with nothing to show for it. |
