^^^ crazy stupid there !!!!! , temps have been unstable since my original post.
myself i never walk out until i see some people out then i give it 5 days or so , the same with driving out i'll wait til i see some trucks out on the lake then another 5-7 days. if anybody is interested in waconia ice reports log onto the link and click on fishing report/news
they do an awesome job with there reports to the point of them going out with a lifeline and they have taken a drink or 2 in the past. and have all the springs marked. and late freezing spots.
always pay at the marina for access as they do a lot for everybody with safety and plowing roads. intownemarina.com link

There have been people out all over around Hutch but the rain and warm temps put a real damper on things, I would expect conditions will improve in a hurry with the cold front moving in.

Gadfly: "It's amazing how unpredictable ice is. Made it out on an east central MN lake this past weekend and found 6 to 8 inches of ice out a couple hundred yards or so. Two other lakes within a couple miles had no more than 3 inches in any of the places I checked (didn't wander far from shore).
Also hearing reports of 9" in the Mille Lacs bays which wouldn't surprise me since people have been going out there for about a week already. "

Much of Mille lacs lake is open today. The bays frozen, but 9 inches I think that is stretching it quite a bit.

No matter the cold -- even record cold recently- it's still November. The heat sink from many lakes will prevent safe ice until early DEC; I don't care how cold it gets. It's damn too early for fish. See the Red Lake loss of life about this time last year. Wait a few weeks.

4” of clear ice only about 30 miles north of you in South Haven. My son in law played hockey on Thanksgiving. Also a few portable houses out there.

^^^ never go out on an unfamiliar lake at night. and your local baitshops usually have the best info for ice conditions, check in ;)
Lake Waconia is usually the last to freeze up in this area as it is 3,000 acre's and has many springs . and last year a gaggle of geese kept two spots open awhile , but intowne marina marked those spots , they do a great job keeping everyone safe !

Chapman's resort reported finding up to 9.5" on their ice road finding nothing less than 8" for 1.25 miles out. They are allowing ATV travel and may be allowing small wheel houses by the weekend.

ellahallely: "Truck went through the ice on Upper South Long Sunday. Brainerd."
Yeh lucky he only got about 20 feet from the access and in 3.5 feet of water(bottom of his truck door windows). What was he doing on the lake in the first place. He wasn't going fishing he said. Also open water existed 50 yards away. Also lucky he didn't go straight out from the boat ramp and hit the outboard motor hole being a few feet deeper.
The small to midsize lakes people(few) are walking out a ways and trying there luck.

maybe not the best temps in the metro today , but with the rain and temps drop tomorrow under 32* and no snow in the forecast should be making some good ice between 11-25 to 12-5 , if you go out sooner have a PFD on and picks with ;)

Keep us posted on ice conditions if you wouldn't mind. I'm trying hard water for the first time this year, just bought a used auger and flasher yesterday. Waconia seems like a good spot to try. I'm also gonna be trying out some of the local metro area lakes like Harriet. I have no idea where to start but I'm looking forward to giving it a go!
