On the original topic ... 6” ICE THICKNESS is about right :)

What does anybody consider to be safe ice for one person, two people, a small group etc.
We have guys out on a couple of lakes right now with 1 1/2-2 inches of ice. I won’t go out on less than 3-4 inches of good black ice, and even then won’t stand right next to somebody else. I will admit that as I get older I get more cautious because I heal/recover slower.

Yup, better safe than sorry!!
Remember, whether you have 4" or 6" of ice, the thickness is not the same everywhere.

My son in law and the neighbors had a hockey game on the ice yesterday. I was out there too. It was smooth as glass. About 3” of ice so far.

If it holds me up, there's enough. A hockey game on 3" is illustrative of the strength of good, clean first ice. Not all ice is good quality, though.
It always bugs me when I tell people I've been ice fishing and they ask me if there's enough ice. Umm, here I am, so yes.

There is only one way to know: bring a spud and check it out.

I'm a 6'4" guy. I like 6 inches of good ice.
