Seagull lake is an excellent choice , i consider Seagull to be the best entry point lake in the BW for fishing. 1 lake that does fit your criteria is Jasper lake. 100rd very flat and wide portage from seagull to alpine then a 40rd portage into jasper. since the fire that swept through this area jasper lake has become more of a pass through lake as it was devastated by the fire. but it holds a very good population of lake trout , most lakers are out of the same mold 2-3lbs ,i'm sure there are some bigger one's that have leaped frog the year class. like many lake trout lakes in the BWCA it does not have a real good forage base like knife or seagull does. and it does hold walleyes not alot but i nice average size ,same with pike , best place to start for walleyes is to jig around the only island on the lake. if one was to look at the DNR netting report one may not think that Jasper is not a very good lake for lakers BUT one never know how much time the crew was actually able to put in on any given lake due to weather and high winds.

The two lakes I have caught both in are Cherry and Knife.
I will be the first to admit I’m a lousy laker fisherman. Don’t know how to catch them besides aimlessly trolling and I get bored with that pretty quickly.
There are always bass to cast topwaters for and walleyes to jig for. If I had more time up there I might make a more serious effort to figuring out trout fishing.

Any recommendations for a quality lake with good populations of both lake trout and walleyes? I'm an old man so I'm looking to get there without a ton of portaging. No more 200 rod portages for me.
