Here's my casting box. I have an identical box that keeps my corks, jigs, spinner rigs, etc.

Old thread but
I went downstairs and looked at all the tackle I accumulated over the years and much of it I probably will never use.
I have a problem-if I go to fleet and see this nice lure I just have to have it or got a hot fishing lure I got to buy more before they quit making it. Well a new hot lure will come along and I won't use the previous one again anyhow.
I am sure none of you have a ADDICTION OF TOO MUCH TACKLE. You probably got self control.

Hey fishguts - maybe you can enlighten me...what kind of bait is the perch colored popper directly below the shad pattern skitter pop (2nd row down, middle). Looks like it has a clear skitterpop lip, but a wider body like a popmax from Megabass. What is it? Looks pretty hot.

Spent some time today adding a few and taking a few out from last year...finally about ready to go. Heading out early June with a primary target of smallmouth bass...hence the excessive amount of topwaters! I'll also be bringing in some leeches for walleyes...it'll be the first time I've used leeches.

I like tackle porn too. I'd take a pic myself but I'm pretty sure you all know what a black jig head and a leach looks like... its the only thing I used in 6 days last fall!

although I bring all of this every year...I don't want to admit how little of it is used due to the effectivness of one particular piece of tackle...that being a jig and plastic body.

well this is what I'm bringing for the big trip. I spent $100+ at Bass Pro Shop yesterday and I still feel like I don't have enough!

BassPro, I see you've got a couple blade baits in there. I fish them a lot in mid-summer but catch 10 walleye for every bass. Do you catch many bass with them, and if so, do you fish them differently for bass than walleye?

only spinning lures I use are inline (mepps are hidden in there somewhere, you can see the buck tail sticking out on one of them) and when I make a harness with blades. Also, only pack in white mr twisters which I will just tie to the outside of the tackle box with my stringer.

Nothing wrong with spending money on too much tackle that you'll never use unless you can't eat because of it. I have tons of tackle I'll never use and it's nice to have the collection....might even be worth bigger $ someday but that's surely not why I have it. I've got a nice big collection of HO toy trains too but no layout. Maybe one day I will, but in the meantime it's neat just to look and display some of it. I have fun with both, no guilt :)

I have tied 1000's of flies but those I found at Cabela's in Clearwater, MN. I hope to tie into some pike with those. They are so cool looking and when they hit the water they swim lifelike. Sorry I did not get back to you, missed this one.

You guys take a lot more gear than I do... I just feel like I end up using so little of what I have taken along in the past that I par things down a lot now. Always bring extra blue and silver and black and silver original rapalas though. They catch fish. Hard to find a species of fish they wont catch either.

May many 5 pound smallies bless your hook. p.s. Im sure you will do great with them, just remember they really shine in clear water, if you fish murky or tannin water, use the motor oil colored ones with the chartreuse tail.

By increasing use of "elaz-tech" plastics, I may be able to reduce the third column to nothing. Some of those bags are combinations of lures. I don't do as much changing of lures while in a canoe though. Everything should fit into a small tackle bag, along with pliers, stringer, spreader, knife, rag, and nipper.

This is constantly evolving. I really should be able to get away with no more than 3 of each: jerkbaits, shad raps, topwaters, lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, in-line spinners, spoons, then maybe 1 or 2 chatterbaits, swim baits and some miscellaneous. Also 1 or 2 bags of Zeros, Zulus, Grubs, Tubes, finesse worms, Gulp leeches, 10 or 12 jigs, a variety of hooks, snaps, and weights, and a couple of leaders. 3 or 4 reels, 2 rods, spare spools, extra line. I might bring a float, but I don't usually use live bait. I also will bring crappie size tubes and jigs fwiw.

A simple rubber band can be hooked on the lip and to the back treble, then the front and middle trebles can be coaxed to lie down along the body, slipping two of the hooks on each treble under the band. Is it perfect? No, but you can save a lot of space by stashing a lot more choices into one area, and you'll maybe only pull out one or two at a time instead of a whole handful.

I took a lot more on my first trip than I do now. The less I bring, the less I carry. I'll be winnowing it down until the day i leave, and enjoying every minute.

That is a veritable ton of plastics. Question - how soon will you throw away a Gulp (or whatever) package after you open it? Days or weeks? Even with the ziplock, I assume the scent goes bad or they eventually dry out once opened.

Actually I prefer powerbaits over gulps. If I keep the packages sealed good enough the gulps don't dry out and I have a few a couple years old opened but resealed. If necessary I could also drop em in the containers with the liquid juice, but have used those even less...my gulp containers are going on 4 or 5 years old now :C
I prefer the 2.5" powerbaits over the 3" variety...I've got a bag of 3" powerbaits they have been in a baggie since a 1999 trip that still have the strong smell to them. Since I use the smaller size the 3 inchers rarely get used but I bring em along for backup C:
This years arsenal...my son always says why do we always bring those crankbaits? LOL

I'll bring 5 trays of lures this year. One for plastics, one for jigs, bobbers, spoons, and spinners, one for crankbaits, and two for all my son's lures. There will be inevitable duplication with my son's stuff but I want him fishing with his lures so he can catch fish and create memories from his own tackle box.

I actually use the blade baits mostly for lakers, but they work very well for smallies on deep humps.
