Fish the submersed rocks between the islands, can't miss for walleye and smallies.

Hang on a sec. trapper55, are you trying to trap minnows? and then use those minnows to catch bigger fish?

We were in there about 5 years ago, didn't try to catch bait fish, but as stated bring leeches, you will catch tons of smallies and walleye. Also, fish top water baits at dusk for smallies, might be one of the best fishing experiences I have had in the BWCA.
For fun take the portage to Cummings or as one of our group called it "The Big Moose Death March". It will adjust your opinion on what a tough portage is.

I have never tried, but I can tell you the fish in that lake LOVE leeches.
