Magicstik,

Did you drill bigger holes in the base of the Troller holder so you could use bigger screws/bolts to mount it?

Well I finally got around to figuring out a mount for the Marcum troller on my canoe. I tried a couple of U bolts but it didn't work as well. Just used a couple of small bolts and the flat piece from the U bolt. Just bolting it down on one side is plenty sturdy. With a couple twists of the wing nut the mount flips down and out of the way. Should work good for shooting thru the hull or just with the ducer over the side.

Nice magic. looks like a great setup. I still want one of these. This worked good for you in a canoe then I take it.

I just received one as a Xmas present. I have used it four times ice fishing now. I also have the performance pack that enables you to mount the unit and run it off 12 volt battery and there is an arm to hold and adjust transducer cable. Or you can just run off 6 double a's and hop holes. I used lithium AA batteries and have not had any issues with the unit malfunctioning. I use ice mode all the time to keep it warm when on the ice.

I've always ice fished/canoe fished blindly in the past (without technology), but this unit shows your lure/bait dropping down, gives you a depth reading and allows you to zoom to bottom 5 feet or 10 feet of water column. I have caught fish that I wouldn't have even known were there before by reading the graph and jigging/reeling up accordingly. It will be nice to read depths out in the canoe to hone in on fishing structure.

I also wanted something to kill two birds with one stone. The lightweight nature of unit will be nice when canoe tripping. I am probably going to get 12 rechargeable batteries and a solar charger for use when canoe fishing/camping. I'll use setup like Magikstiks to mount in canoe.

I decided on this unit because of Magikstiks posts. I appreciate the info that is shared on this site because it helped me find a fishing solution without breaking the bank! Magikstiks, Thanks for sharing info about this product and a canoe mounting setup.

Hi all,
Spent a day last weekend staring down an ice hole, not even a bite, move a couple times. Watched a couple of guys on a video on flowage just down river from where I was fishing, Two weeks earlier with the same conditions, same set up, doing exactly what I was trying. Of course the video showed them catching fish.

This week I am thinking about electronics. I was going to purchase an LCD fishfinder for my canoe this year. My understanding is that an LCD fishfinder has a delay and a sonar flasher is real time. As I was thinking about it, maybe I could use this product for both summer and winter fishing. It sounds like you are happy with this product, but thought I migh try to use this thread as opposed to start another.

This product is significantly cheaper than other sonar type flashers, but reviews are good. I like the vertical display vs circular seems easier. So those that have used this product what are your thoughts?

Thanks

You are certainly welcome but the idea came from the InDepth Outdoors folks. I just mounted it differently. :)

I believe this mount comes with the performanc pack...is that correct Sandman? I thought the Marcum folks mentioned that when I ordered my bracket.

I have yet to use up a set of AA'a on a 5 day bw fishing trip....and that is using it every day. Very happy with the purchase!

Thanks,

I am pretty sure a new piece of gear is coming. This was a little more than I wanted to pay, I was just thinking I wanted to know depth mostly, but depth did not help me over the weekend. Like you said this does not break the bank, and should be very versitile.

The mount Magikstik used in the picture above comes with the performance pack and is mounted to the 12 volt battery compartment which can be removed from the soft sided case.

If you don't want to take that apart, or you're not interested in the performance pack, you could also order the two pieces that make up the bracket off of the marcum site like Magikstik did.

For what it's worth I use the exact same set up and mount it using two zipties, they fit through the existing holes no problem. Cinch them down tight and it is very secure. Easy to turn upside down for car topping also.

Magicsik's mount looks great but I was too lazy to go to the store.....

Yes, it worked well on two trips last year. I am thinking this might make a nice spot to rest the rod behind while trolling also...just move the mount to one side or the other.
