If I were to target one lake from this entry point to try for eater-sized walleye, what lake would you recommend? Basic route is up through Little Loon towards the Beartrack/Finger area, and down through Gebe/Oyster/Hustler/Shell.

I'm really only interested in catching a couple of 16 inchers without all-day marathon efforts (my wife tires of it easily). I will mostly be using crankbaits because I don't want to babysit live bait all week.

either Pauness, Finger, Pocket, Gebe, Lynx, Shell. Shell being the easiest/most consistent. One man's opinion....

We fished Shell, Little Shell and Lynx last summer. Caught lots of eater walleyes on Shell and much bigger fish on Lynx. Shell is full of nice eating walleyes and that's where I would start.

My wife loves to Basecamp on Little Loon, the reason? Easy to catch walleye, don't know about with crank bait, but easy with leeches. We stayed there a week and only saw one canoe, even with the portage to Slim right there! That was also the last week in June. All the other suggestions are good too. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips, everyone. The good thing is that we should basically have the same luck wherever we stop and feel like fishing a bit.

I talked my wife into bringing in a few leeches. Since we're headed to Little Loon first, we might be able to fish for walleye with them.

Hmmmm, I don't see that one on the map. Maybe I should look a little harder?
