I told my brother in law after last year's BWCA ice fishing not to let me go even when I forget how hard it was, but after watching our video all summer about our trip, we both have started to plan for seagull lake this year! Can't wait. I posted this last year, but heres the link to the video again. Seagull lake ice fishing "

Stumbled across your vid after deciding to do Seagull fir our winter trip this march That was a heck of a trout. What time of year were you guys there? Did you just go in for a day or camp? We're planning on three nights. Can't wait.

Probably a reason Yeti doesn't make 5 gallon buckets, not enough margin.

I am a 5 gallon bucket guy sitting out side also.

Those trailer types are really getting popular. They use them as deer camps in the fall and summer trailers. In the winter they pull them up on various lakes for the weekend and fish.
What is getting more common is some have formed groups and you will have like 15-20 pull onto a small lake and fish it hard for so many days and may be having a impact on fish populations when the bite is on.

I admit they are nice with multiple uses, but spendy. There are many manufactors of that type of trailer. Some of the first I seen was people taking horse trailers and doing extensive work and skills I don't have in making a very nice fish-camping trailer.

We were ice fishing fanatics back in the day and we had a portable ice shanty that we used on occasion. I remember it being quite nice. It was especially fun watching big bull bluegills and the occasional pike come through our holes. Lots of fun!

I think it would be sort of fun to fish out of this Yeti house. But knowing me I would be off drilling new holes when I didn't get a bite. Nice place to come home to though ;-)

For you ice fishing folks out there looking for an ice house upgrade ... here is an "All American" wheeled ice fishing house with about every amenity available. I saw it in this months issue of IN-Fisherman.

8' x 21', 10 ice holes, kitchen, dining room, living room, sink, fridge, sleeps 4-6 ... $11,450 - $33,845 ...YIKES.

I am used to just sitting on a 5 gallon bucket with the wind and snow blowing around me when ice fishing on the backwaters of the nearby Mississippi River.

You guys up in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, I am sure have seen it all out there on your ice fishing lakes. Ice fishing houses have come a long way from the ones I have seen. My most memorable ones are the ones in the movie classic "Grumpy Old Men."

As someone who spends as much time as possible on the ice I would really have little interest in something like this. Probably for many of the same reasons I would rather spend a night in a tent in the BW instead of staying in an RV. For me its the experience, I don't want to bring the comforts of home out to the wilderness. I have fished in them before and I understand why people buy them because they are very nice. I am just glad there are places like the BWCA where I can go and don't have to worry about one of these pulling up 10 feet from my pop up with the generator blaring all day long.

I know a few guys that own similar units. Not only do they use them for ice fishing, but they use it for deer camp too. They just tow it into the woods and it works as a deer camp shack.

I know that a cool-down is on the way, but at the rate we're going this year, a guy would praying to get enough ice to hold that thing before the walleye season comes to a close... :-(

That's another great point. I know people use them in the summer as a camper but even on average years you would only get a couple months to use them in the winter. They would make a very nice base camp though.

A guy at Deer camp has a really decked out one. His also a toy hauler so he can haul a pair of sleds or ATVs. He will be the first to tell you it's more of an RV than ice fishing hit. His is one of the full RV ones with lots of Windows and A/C. He spent 40 nights it it last year, that's 40 nights the kids were out of the house away from the couch.

They could sell insulated 5 gallon buckets for about $250.
