Feels and looks like midwinter along the Gunflint Trail. No noticeable ice deterioration in my opinion.

Fishing Leech lake and talking about the ice conditions getting iffy. I know our ice season is pretty much shot down here near Madison but I didn't realize it had worked it's way that far north. That's taking a big chunk out of ice season. How far north are things getting bad and how bad?

I think the leech lake ice is iffy is for the Eel Pout contest this weekend which is a big drunkin party and too many vechiles in one location. Plenty of ice still up north. But on big lakes the ice is cracking and heaving and if driving on lakes cars are not seeing cracks and going in.
Know your lakes.
Brainerd area small lakes have 18 inches and maybe 15 inches of real good ice. Along shore and where currents are present it may be iffy on some lakes.
