quote Eyedocron: "I just pulled up Hilleberg tents to find out what is so special. Seriously $600 -$800 for a 2 person tent? " When things are expensive there is a myriad of possible reasons........could be a scam or it could be something which uses only top quality materials and takes the time and effort to make something which is superior. You will find Hilleberg tents on the flanks of Himalayan mountains such as K2 and Everest. The question then becomes does one really need such a product to stay safe and dry canoe tripping? Most of us, myself included, find other less expensive options which still suit our needs admirably well. But I am in the camp of tolerance and if someone wants to get a truly amazing tent and it brings them enjoyment to use it I say more power to them. |

And, I am very jealous. Look forward to hearing how you like it after a few trips. |

It's been to Isle Royale twice already, I am a firm believer in buying quality gear. |

quote wetcanoedog: " Looking over the Hilleberg offerings, I was actually surprised that they don't include sod cloth/wind flaps on their tent vesitbules. For such well designed and manufactured tents, it seems like a significant omission. They are really handy in all types of bad weather. Fortunately, they are super easy to install as a DIY project. |

before the flaps I was using my boots and other bits of gear to seal the gaps. too give you an idea of how well made the tent is I got up one AM and standing up got cramps in both legs.i fell against that center pole and bent it but the fabric sleeve held without damage. |

I have the Akto and the only problem was that the side by the door did not come down far enough to keep out the wind.i like to keep the inside door open so I can use the vestibule.the uneven ground I pitch on sometimes left gaps so I had a sod cloth/wind flap put around that side of the tent. like Gransfor Brunks the person who made the tent put a label with their name on what they made.the tent is made in Estonia but that is not for cheaper labor costs.Estonia has a large and well known sewing industry. |

quote DrBobDg: "Wow.... Sadly, no lottery win for me. But at this stage in my life I figure, "Why not?" My sincere hope is that I won't have to be careful with it :>) |

quote bwcasolo: "enjoy, what will your property taxes be on that condo? :)" Well sure I had to get a second mortgage but I gotta have a good tent, right? To paraphrase the fabulous furry freak brothers - "I'd rather have camping in times of no money than money in times of no camping." |

I have always subscribed to quality being a priority. Such things are not merely a means to an end but rather a pleasure in and of themselves. Sort of like a CCS tarp vs a blue tarp. Can I have your old tent? Your not going to need it any more......ever....... My Hubba Hubba needs a new fly I think. :-) |

Says the guy with 10 in the garrage. Who's always looking at more. Hilleberg make's a fine shelter. I won't say I drool when looking them em over, more like slobber a bunch. "Wow"! The construction, design, choice of materials, ease of set up, everything about it is so far above anything I've ever owned that I feel vindicated already for the ridiculous amount of money it cost. Can't wait for our first storm on the Bloodvein this summer :>)" Pardon me but "NO SHIT!". I was impressed with the Walrus Hurricane Hole I owned. But Hillebergs almost made it seem like it was made for "Wallmart". Use it well and enjoy! butthead |

quote QueticoMike: "I hope I live long enough to go through a couple more tents :)" Yeah, well when I say it will be the last tent I ever own, it's not necessarily saying much ;>) |
