Yeah, Sat Apr 29 at all stores, starts when the store opens. Our Maple Grove sales gal said we really should consider hitting the Bloomington store: "Tons of stuff. They're setting up a tent in the parking lot."

As is typical of my local store's garage sale, I'll be camping with the Boy Scouts this weekend and as a result I'll miss out again. Anybody going to the Grant Pilgrimage in Galena, IL?

quote schweady: "My wife just picked up a pair of Oboz Sawtooth Low BDry Hiking Shoes at the REI in Maple Grove. Great shoes, but I only mention it to tell of the even better service she received. While debating the decision, the salesperson mentioned REI's liberal return policy: "Anything about your purchase you don't like, just bring it back for a refund. No questions asked. All we require is that you make return within one year. We can't resell used items on the floor, obviously, but they would be offered at our Garage Sale." (Which happens to be this Saturday.)

I knew that REI was known for their ridiculously generous return policy in the past, but I thought they had done away with it more completely. One year, no questions. Pretty nice.

Not to diminish the topic of this thread, but is REI still treating its employees relatively poorly? Lots of stories a year or two ago of them underpaying workers, overhiring, and often arbitrarily lowering workers' hours to dangerously low amounts.

I mass interviewed with them once upon a time, and their high opinion of themself as a company was kinda creepy.

WE were at Road America and Cathy was on her own on a Sat. morning. She was having trouble getting the last pole in the top pocket, a kindly gentleman offered help, kinked it a bit getting it put together. It was still used thru the rest of the year, just figured I'd fix it.

I had a bent pole on a Half Dome 2 after a wind storm in the Boundary Waters several years ago. I figured I'd take the pole in to order a new one and they said it was covered under warranty but they didn't have any poles in stock, the manager went and took a pole out of another tent off the shelf. Can't beat that service.

I had a kinked pole on a REI FlexLite chair that needed replacing. Went to REI, my wifes request for a Mini Camelback for grandson. Realized I forgot the chair, but struck up a conversation with the repair personnel. Came away with enough tube to fix it and another, "here take it free". I did have it apart from the shock cord and it was a simple cut/trim and re-string, after I got home.

Still had my div. to use and to avoid any self guilt snagged a MSR TrailShot on the way out. It connected to my gravity set without a problem, alows pumping to start flow, filters faster than my MiniSaywer. Even connected to my Camelback and filled easily. Between the TrailShot and a water bladder in my pack it just eliminated carting a bottle (if I choose).

Anyway here's to REI service!
