I have the Crazy Creek Canoe Chair III. They work very well in the canoe although the back support is a little lame unless you have a pack behind it. They are supposed to be comfortable in camp as well, but mine stay in my canoe since I also bring a Helinox Chair One.

What do you guys recommend for a canoe pad/chair? I have one that I bought from Gander a few years back and it works great. I need to buy a second one for my girlfriend to use but am not crazy about the reviews of the ones I've seen on Amazon.

Interesting. Have you had any issues with the bottom part splitting? I was almost ready to pull the trigger on this one until I started reading the reviews on amazon. There were a ton of reviews where people had the bottom part splitting at the seam after only a couple uses. 20% of the reviews were 3 stars or less.

We use the Crazy Creek canoe seats both in and out of the canoe.

We've used everything over the decades. 3 models of Crazy Creeks, the Sitbacker, the Mad River fancy caned version (nice) but I kneel and use none anymore. My wife had tried it all except the cheap Coleman seatback. I found one in a strainer on the Current River a couple years ago and the wife tried it and says it's the BEST? She oughtta know, she's got a bad back and has tried them all. Here's a link and a picture. It's the blue seat back on the Solo 13. I know, looks "Cheap" and uncomfortable, but I have to admit it's better than the others IMHO?

I think the crazy creeks style are ok, but I prefer the Wenonah Bucket Seat Backband

You still need a tractor seat pad. I installed this on my canoe many years ago and still like it.

Happy trails

I have one each of these in bow and stern. Love them. Would probably work well in camp also but haven't tried. "

This is what I have as well. It does work well in camp, I just wrap the straps that hold it to the seat around one of the sitting logs, and instant camp chair.

I love my crazy creek chair. I also use it in camp, strapped to a log seat by the fire. I'm not a fan of the metal framed chairs. Kind of bulky for me.

I like the adjustable soft back chairs. I tried cheap stiff back ones and they seemed to not work as well.
I own a Wenona and a no name brand with a zippered pouch in the back of it. I really like the handiness of the pouch.

Bought one of those for my daughter a couple years back. She really likes it. Personally, I no longer use a chair with a seat back as I find it constricts my paddling motion. I use a closed cell pad on the seat, and that's it.

Me too, I rub my elbow on the seat back. If you kneel, it straightens your back, but if sitting and fishing, the attachable/detachable ones were my favorite when I still used one.

We bought two Sitbackers and one broke leaning back while fishing. Sold the other one because of that and the fact that it sits you up higher, raising your center of gravity and lowering your stability. I'm built like a offensive lineman, so maybe be careful if you're a big guy using the Sitbacker because of these two issues?

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I think my question is related. If you are a kneeling paddler, and an old fart like me, what do you use to cushion your knees?

Thanks, Dave

GSI Sitbscker for me. Very comfortable with exceptional back stability. But like Ozarkpaddler said, you sit up1 inch higher on the seat with a GSI Sitbacker. So I had to lower my seat in my Bell Magic by 1 inch to maintain center of gravity and overall stability.

The crazy creek and the Coleman i see on CL a lot here in MN, so check there if you dont mind used. Bought a GCI from amazon and it was listed as "Cosmetic damage", i could not find a thing wrong with it, maybe some cosmetic scratches on the bottom, but i got it delivered for 15, couldn't pass it up.

Forgot to mention that I have not seen any durability issues with the GSI Sitbacker. I have had a Sitbacker for the bow seat in my Wenonah MN II for 5 years and have not had a rip or tear or signs of any wear.

The GSI Sitbacker is too wide to fit in the stern seat of the MN II. I went with a Cushgear Backsaver-Bucket for my seat. I use my life vest as a back cushion for the wood back support and a seat cushion for butt comfort.

Had to switch to primarily kneeling due to a vascular injury and subsequent numbness in my left leg if I sit more than about 10- 15 minutes. Since I started kneeling, I've tried a variety of closed cell foam pads. I've also used cheap, closed cell foam pads you can get almost anywhere. My last ones came from Aldi's, and I combined it with my thinner Bell pad. There's a T-shaped pad I had for years that was nice, but pricey. And a few people swear by one made from the "Bag Lady?" If I needed a new pad right now, I'd get the T-pad from Piragis. Had one, lasted me almost 10 years. Bought the thinner Bell pad I use now from a friend and have needed to supplement it with extra padding from the Aldi's mat.

On the portage, the kneeling pad gets wrapped around my seat and secured with a cam strap.

Ideally, I have installed minicell pads like I have in my Pal and have installed in others, but a little extra cushion from another pad helps on my old knees. If not for kneeling, I would have had to give up paddling in 2004. Funny thing is, I didn't realize how much easier it is and how much more boat control. So, what started as a "Negative" turned into a "Positive" circumstance!

I'll post a few pics and a few links:
