How long will your battery last? I have been using a bunch of AA batterys and wondering if I would get more life out of a battery like you have.

quote DeanL: "
This is what I rigged up. I use u-bolts to go through the base and around the thwart in front of me. I use a 12v 7ah battery that is half the size of a vexilar battery and mount it right behind the unit. "

I like your storage bag.

I have a 12v 20ah lion battery which I have yet to test much. It is very lightweight. I am thinking with the light weight solar chargers that I could go lighter on the battery and maybe take two in case one fails. Charge one while using the other.

I am also interested in mounts. I have a SI unit so will have to get below keel. I like the simplicity of yours.

Not so compact but transferable and storage for a bunch of stuff.

Can you tell on the showdown what os a fish vs vegitation?
I was thinking of purchasing a vexilar for ice fishing plus a transducer to use in my canoe with the display from my boat. I suppose a showdown would cover both.

Lots of good ideas. Thanks so far, not sure which way to go. Im leaning towards a showdown.

I have the same exact setup for my transducer mount as DeanL but I use a RAM claw mount to attach the actual sonar to the thwart. Then I have a power box that stores my batteries. This is about the only picture I have of the setup

Marcum Showdown Troller with bracket from performance pack ziptied to the thwart. It's only a flasher but it's tough to beat if you are looking for compact and simple. Runs on 6 AAs that you put in the back of the unit.

No modifications needed. Just a standard ice fishing depth finder...

Battery lasts all week, screen is big, and shoots right through bottom of kevlar canoe.

We just returned from a trip where a good portion of our time was spent fishing vertical for lakers, the showdown was a huge help for this type of fishing! If anyone needs a mount for one I can help you out.

Yes, you can tell the difference.

It's pretty hard to beat the showdown in my opinion. It's very compact with great battery life, it will run all week on a set of batteries.
I made my mount from
UHMW with a small carpenters spring clamp and am very happy with it. No need for a transducer mount. It shoots through my hull no problem or can be dangled over the side.

Does anyone have any pics of their modified canoe depth finder setups? I am going to come up with something more compact than my current setup for my next trip so I'm looking for ideas.
