I also would vote highly for the Luci light. I'm a recent convert to them and used them on my most recent trip a couple weeks ago. I set it up in the sun outside my hammock during the day and inside at night. It has plenty of light and mine holds it's charge a long time.

I haven't tried the clone lantern but I do love our Luci lanterns. We used to have 4 but I keep giving them to friends who fall in love with them. Currently down to only two in the house. We also use them when the power goes out.

Which type? The frosted globe style Aura, Lux Emrg and such, or the clear globe Original, and Outdoors? I have both and the clear ones do not get stiff or hard in cold weather. I've used them below freezing regularly. The frosted types can get brittle, I have one broken Aura, globe shattered but the lamp works fine otherwise. Far as age I have 2 of the early production versions, both collapse/inflate/work well now as when new.

I took a Luci EMRG on my last 3 trips (each 14 day duration). It worked flawlessly for all but the very last day on my last trip. Apparently it got switched on inside my pack. However, upon returning home it has been fully recharged and works perfectly. A very nice light for inside the tent.

MPowered Luci Lamps
There are many sold under different names but same design. I have a bunch (around 10 between myself and son). Old, new, frosted, colored, with good performance from all. Have had one old model with a switch failure and one Aura colored that the globe broke, but below 20 degrees temp and being dropped (cut off the globe part and still use it). All I use for lanterns now!

For 12 and a half bucks, how far wrong can you go? I love my two Luci's, but there may well be better out there. Just get one and try it at home.

Anyone have any experience with these portable, inflatable, solar lanterns. Looks like the collapse down to about the size of a hockey puck. Sure would save some space in my pack.

Yes, I have had one for several years now. I am happy with it and have had no problems with it. BTW you don't blow into them to inflate rather you squeeze the inlet tube as you carefully pull on the top to pull it open.

Looks like a Luci clone. I'm sure it'll work fine. Don't be surprised if it doesn't charge well inside a double pane insulated window, they tend to have a coating which reduces the amount of UV coming through and it causes the charge to slow down.
Gently pull open while you squeeze the valve or blow, your choice.

Bought 3 Luci Lights for a July 2016 trip. They all worked great. Got home, put them on a shelf in the closet.
Pulled them out about 10 days ago when our power at home got knocked out, all 3 still had a good charge. Got about 4 hours out of each of them until the power came back on. They all still had a good glow after 4 hours when I turned them off.
I'm a fan.

These are great little lanterns, the kids can use them in the tent, I sleep in a hammock and they are light enough to hang on my ridge line.
Great little product, still pack my headlamp but a great general lantern.

I've had three Luci lanterns. Two were defective---after a couple of months, on a full charge they only stayed lit for a few minutes. I far prefer the ThorFire CL04: https://www.amazon.com/ThorFire-Powered-Rechargeable-Portable-Flashlight/dp/B014H4036A It gives off a LOT more light than the Luci. Ignore the manufacturer's statement at Amazon that it gives off 63 lumens on high and 25 lumens on low. That's surely an error; I think it's more like 200 lumens on high and 150 lumens on low (just guessing by comparing it to other lanterns). I love this innovative lantern. Well worth the Amazon sale price of $15. Get two and you can light up a large campsite. Close it down completely and it gives off a soft glow in the tent. Closed it can also be used as a flashlight with a throw of about 100'. From now on I will take only this lantern and a headlamp.
