It doesn't have an HIN. I'm definitely finding that there are no records for connecting serial numbers and years. My wife got the canoe registered for me and the person at the licence bureau said she had to pick a year. So at least according to the state of MN its a '49.

If it was manufactured after 1972 it will have a HIN tag (hull identification number), which will be located in the stern. It may be hard to find, but it will be there. If it was made prior to 1972, it will be hard to identify the year of manufacture, due to companies changing hands, etc.

I bought a Grumman canoe today and I'm wondering if anyone here can give me an estimate of it's age.

The plate on the bow has the number 3705A-5-17, and says Bethpage NY. I believe that means it is older? Is there anything else I can look for to determine it's age?
