I've given credit to this boat quite a bit over the years. Have many years experience paddling one. I've had it in big water with two 200 lb paddlers in it. Here's a recent thread with comparisons. Are there better boats for BWCAW use? There are. But the Adirondack is the most versatile boat I've paddled and paddles well solo and tandem.

Where were you a couple months ago? I am still considering emailing you even though I just bought a Spirit II a month ago. Assuming this is in good condition this is an awesome deal. I'd take him up on this if you really want the Adirondack....

Thanks Bumstead! That's exactly what I wanted to know. It sounds like a kevlar Adirondack is in my future. I don't suppose you want to sell yours, he he? Seriously, though, yours was exactly the answer I was hoping for. I'm a bit surprised that it is not a more popular model. Everyone seems to prefer the Minnesota II, but it's 5 lbs. heavier, which as you point out, is quite noticeable.

Has anyone paddled one? It seems to be the lightest tandem tripper on the market, but I'm worried about its relatively small capacity. Any thoughts?

I own two Adirondacks, one Kevlar / one royalex. Have taken them to the BW a few times without any issue of capacity. Two guys, 200ish lbs each with gear for 4 night trips. And I'd go week trips if I had the time as that only adds another 20ish pounds of food/fuel per boat max. I now have a Wenonah 17 in Kevlar which is the second boat and leave the Royalex 60 pounder at home.
The legroom in the front of the 16 footer is a bit tight for me, at 6'3" 215 lbs, but wow that 37 lbs boat weight is very noticeable over the 44 lbs of the 17. So light, yet very acceptable efficiency when paddling.
In the last 5 years I've acquired the Kevlar boats, a used Adirondack and a closeout "17". If I would have bought brand new Kevlar boats at a store with full lineup selection, I would most likely have the Spirit II's, but most of my trips are fishing focused where the extra bow room for the front angler in a 17 footer is noticeable over the Adirondack.
One nice thing about having the Adirondack is if/ when I ever go solo in the BW, I think it'll be an acceptable boat to use. I'd say consider paddler size, typical gear weight, typical trip focus, and need for lightest portage weight... the Adirondack may fit your needs perfectly. I know I've been very happy with mine.

We have an Ozark Rendezvous every October if you're interested? The Current is pretty good, many channel changes, a few tricky strainers, but the lower Jack's Fork still pretty bad in spots. Look forward to meeting you!

Sounds like fun guys. But frankly, I'm a little burned out on the super popular rivers like the Current and the Jacks Fork. I usually target streams that don't draw the big crowds. And by late October, I've usually put down my paddle for the year and donned a backpack. For Ozark canoeing I'm more of a April/May kind of guy. But it does sound like a good time, and I certainly hope you have one!

Well, I'm a 12 month kind of guy myself. There's a few more people during the summer, but not that many through the week, when I paddle except around the holidays. But different strokes. I'm tempted to tell everyone to stay away so us and the critters can have it to ourselves.

Have paddled a royalx adirondack for yrs. It is one tough machine. If I'm in rocks or if I am white water paddling I use the adirondack. If someone wants to use my boat they get the adirondack. I have had to fix a gouge now and then and you just as well put skids plates as soon as you get it as the plastic on the ends wear down pretty fast. My only complaint is that the royalx adirondack doesn't hold its shape very well and so is slower then lot of other canoes.
I have done many 5 to 6 day trip in the bdub with it. It's fairly stable and can hold a fair amount of gear.
