Happy with my German fleck tarn parka and bibs. Worn them alot in last 9 yrs. Rugged and not too heavy. BUT I Don't trip in heat of Summer.

This jacket does not breathe at all. When it rains, you are just as wet inside as if you never wore it at all. "
Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. That's when I bit the bullet and got the Arc'Teryx Beta AR. No regrets.

If you want goretex.....and don't want to pay Goretex prices for name brand stuff..might I suggest something military surplus?? I picked up a German Flecktarn "Goretex" parka and bibs for less than $100. The fabric is tough, and you won't cry as much when it gets destroyed. Very easy to care for- just wash in warm water, then dry on high heat. The german version of Goretex doesn't clog up like our Goretex jackets do at times with laundry soap. Plus you blend in well to your surroundings with the Flecktarn Camo pattern. Just something to think about:-).

Thanks for the input guys (and for heading me in the direction of the previous post about the same topic!). Much appreciated!

I have a Patagonia Torrentshell. I'd recommend that or a similar lightweight shell that has pit zips and stuffs into it's own pocket.

How do you find the Patagonia stuff fits? I'd be ordering online and I'm usually in between sizes (L to XL). I usually go a bit on the big side as I layer under for late fall trips etc.
Thanks!

I think my rain jacket has finally seen it's last day so I'm in the market for a new jacket. What would you choose as your next rain jacket if you were to have to buy one today? I'm looking for something waterproof, breathable and fairly rugged. I'm not worried about price. I've always been an Arc'Teryx guy but open to change (I've heard good things about OR and Patagonia?)
Thanks!

I have purchased several Cabela's brand rain suits in varying styles with Gore-Tex and have been happy with all of them.
