I recently read Darren Bush's review of five 17-foot canoes in Canoe & Kayak magazine (May 2017). In case you are interested:

I think all 5 must advertise in the periodical.

I thought it gave a good idea of the characteristics of all of them, & I trust him to give an honest (and expert) opinion.

Frankly, it reads almost as advertisement, not review. Pretty weak as reviews go.

Also, hile I totally get choosing the much more common Cronje, a small part of me had hoped to see my much lesser-known NC Haida represented. Oh well, it's not like I was depending on this article for anything--I already have my canoe.

I trust his opinion, also. Being a dealer, he wouldn't "Trash" any hull as would some of us lesser experienced paddlers would. What fits or pleases one doesn't necessarily fit nor please another because of paddler size, technique, experience, paddling venue, etc.

Reading canoe reviews from the old "Canoe," "Canoe & Kayak," and "Paddler" magazines over the decades, the reviews were much the same. Only difference for me is I KNOW Darren Bush knows what he's talking about.
