slowthump	07/31/2017 11:44AM   I used my woodworking clamping pipes rather than building a rack. I screwed together pipes to make 2 - 7' cross members. Put the pipes on standard foam canoe pads on top of cap and cab of truck and strapped them down with ratchet straps. Placed 2 canoes on top of the pipes and strapped down the canoes to end of pipes. Also used a ratchet strap on the front and back of each canoe to keep canoes from sliding forward or backward. It worked great.
ayudell	07/31/2017 12:48PM   I used parts from Northern Tool and the hardware store. The rack is all steel and uses 1" gas line pipe for the bars. My bars are 72" and comfortably fit two canoes. I started by mounting L-track to the topper at all four corners by through bolting with 2" fender washers on the inside. This stuff has a load rating >1000lbs and allows me to quickly disconnect the rack when not needed. Even if you wanted to stop here, you could use these as a tie down point and mount a canoe up top on foam blocks. I'll have to upload a more detailed photo of the rack that I built later.

Sawman	07/29/2017 06:49PM   Hey, I am new here having just re-visited the BWCA as we cycled through. So I have a question about a rack. My truck has a fiberglass cap,Lear, and I am wanting to install a home made rack. Has anyone fabricated one out of wood and attached it. I am a woodworker so I have a shop full of tools . Just looking for some ideas. Thanks!!!
