I'll be doing a 7 day trip the last few days of Sept in to Oct and I'm on the fence about theses pants. I have the non-lined version and love them but I cant decide if the lined pants will be over kill for this time of year. Stick with the non lined w/ my Patagonia long johns or add the fleece lined pants just incase....
Anyone have experience with these pant?
Thanks!

Take both summer clothes and winter clothes that time of year!! I've had 70 degree days one day, 30 degrees the next day even when the forecast was suppose to be nice !! Better to carry some extra clothes and not need them, then to need them and not have them

I agree with you. You kill two birds with one stone.
Plus how do lined pants qualify as dry on the fly.
Keep em separate and you can dry em separate. Your pants will be back in action before your lining will.

I would go with the long johns and unlined dry on the fly pants.

I would use a non lined pant. You would probably be too warm unless the weather really headed south. If it did you could always throw on your long johns.
If you want something warmer than nylon then look at a 5.1.1 Tactical pant or equivalent brand that has a nylon and cotton blend say 60/40. Those will be a bit heavier but for sure warmer.

Ya that's what I was afraid too. Love my 5.11 pants. Guess that's the ticket.

I have a pair of the lined fly/dry and they are comfy when cold. They also tend cling to your legs so portaging might be an issue. I tripped in April with regular fly/dry and choata hip waders so that I did not get wet and did not feel cold at any point. I did use the lined pair around camp and that was okay.

I take similar pants, but even that time of year don't take long johns. If it gets too cool, I just slip the rain pants (that I have with me anyway) on, and am good to go at a cost of zero additional money, bulk, or weight.

+1 on thus. The 5.11 Tac Lites are the perfect in between weight. One note though they aren't quick drying but I doubt lined pants would be either.
