Well done! The Kev felt doesn't fuzz like the woven fabric; a blessing for sure.

Turned out to be a 1 beer, 1 stogie job. Smooth as a baby's butt. Quick hit with the spray spar varnish, popped a brew, lit a stogie, and just watched it dry. No fuzzies or 5 o'clock shadow with Kevlar fibers. I'm much more pleased than the wrinkle marks in the resin that are still there from the last time I applied skid plates 10+ years ago.

Thanks. Probably a decent two-beer, one stogie job tomorrow afternoon.

Today, I applied skid plates purchased from Northwoods Canoe on my Wenonah Kevlar Prism skin coat, and it went well. I did not stretch Saran Wrap over them as I did in the past to give them a shiny, smooth surface, as it was a real pain the last time I did it (ended up with a ton of wrinkles and Saran Wrap embedded in the resin). So, the surface of the new plates is like sandpaper. I plan to sand them down a bit with a palm sander to get rid of the roughness, and then do a quick polyurethane hit with some spar spray varnish to get rid of the dull sanding finish and whiteness from doing the sanding.

How long should I wait to do the sanding? They seem rock hard now, which is about 9 hours after they were applied. I'm thinking tomorrow afternoon it should be OK, which would be more than 24 hours after application. Any thoughts? It has been about 70 degrees all day, and will be at least that tomorrow. Thanks.

You'll be good to go tomorrow as planned.

24 hours is good. If they are rough and you sand them up and they get a little fuzzy, I've put a second coat of epoxy on. I guess if they sand up smooth, proceed as planned.
