I use a zippered pillow case for my clothes bag. It's perfect. I tried a t-shirt over a stuff sack and it works, but the zippered pillow case is a little more comfortable and easier to use. Trust me, it works like a charm and is a great space saver.

I stuff a fleece jacket into a small nylon stuff sack. Works great and if it gets really cold during the day I know where I can find a warm, dry jacket.

I actually used a regular pillow on my last trip. It was great! I was driving to my lakes.

Ole496, I just check my closet and I have an extra pillow(polyester), I will try your suggestion, if it works then I saved 39 dlls.

My head is used to the pillow on my bed. I pack it in a plastic bag and take it. I have used small and light pillows, but my head never is on it when i awaken.

Pillow from my bed I take it in a compression bag, we basecamp, so it's only a few portages in and out.

I bought one of those inflatable neck pillows a couple years ago ($2.50 maybe?). Provides plenty of padding for sore shoulders when portaging, and I use as a pillow too.

I really like this pillow:

Its inflatable, so you can adjust the firmness. Its super light, and packs super small (smaller than a soda can).
If you don't want to take a dedicated pillow, then a XS Sea to Summit stuff sack with a down jacket works pretty darn well too.

I have used the Thermarest compressible ones several times/ The key is to make sure you unroll them between trips so they maintain their fluffiness.

I'm absolutely love my Nemo Fillo pillow. It can be adjusted to whatever thickness you want and rolls up to about the size of a pop can. I just roll it up and place it in the stuff sack with my sleeping bag.

I bought the 4 pack of "my pillows". The travel size one squishes down to the size of a nalgene bottle. Works for me.

I just bought a Nemo fillo and used it on my trip last week. It was wonderful. I had always just used my wool shirt or fleece pullover. I slept much better this trip!

As someone else said if you've got a stuff sack and some extra clothes you've already got a pillow waiting to happen. Why spend money on something extra and carry more weight? I've never been happy with the air pillows either...

I used to do that but the older I got the harder those clothes became.
I fold my fleece jacket and place a slightly under inflated Eped Large pillow on top.
Its a vast improvement.

Nemo Fillo for 4+ years now, however I recently received an Exped inflatable pillow that might be my new warm weather pillow. Thicker & wider than the Nemo, no foam - bladder only. It squashes down to the form factor of a pair of C batteries stacked.

I can not sleep without a pillow. What kind of pillow do you take to the BWCA? I was thinking about bringing my pillow in a compression sack?

I use the Nemo FILLO Luxury pillow in a Nemo sleeping bag.
With that extra size comes a little more bulk and weight but I find the better sleep quality is worth the trade off. My wife uses the same pillow. We have different preferences in height and firmness so it fits a range of needs well.

I bought a Klymit inflatable Pillow X. It fits in the hooded compartment at the top of my Big Agnes Lost Ranger bag, so it doesn't go anywhere. Deflated, it's about the size of a roll of quarters.
It's thick enough to support my head. It's the right weight and cost ($15 for a refurb one on eBay, fulfilled by Klymit). It is a little firm, underinflating it by a little helps.
It can also be noisy, but I carry ear plugs. It helps me sleep longer in the morning so I don't wake up my tripping partners.

Man... I will pay whatever it takes to find a comfortable pillow. More than the bed, the sheets, the blanket - that's the most important item for comfortable sleep for me.
At home, I use My Pillow... they're awesome (based in Minnesota, too.) I have a couple of the small travel sized pillows, but I've found that they give almost no support. I wish they had a pillow between the "travel" size and the standard size that I could take camping. Maybe they do now - I haven't been to their website I a while. I got mine at the Texas State Fair several years ago. I have a standard size My Pillow that I take with me when I travel. They have space saver bags that will squish the pillow down to the thickness of a folded T-shirt. Fits in the bottom of my suitcase and it takes up almost no room.

The top surface needs to be a bit flat to keep your head from rolling off. The Sea to Summit Aeros Premium is 5" high. I'm just not willing to pay $45 for a camping pillow. Heck, I don't pay that much for my pillow at home.
I currently use this: https://www.amazon.com/Trekology-Ultralight-Inflating-Camping-Pillows/dp/B01LW5LYEN. It's only about 2.5" thick in the center so I put an inflatable trail seat under it for a bit more loft. Might add a fleece to that. Build up height from whatever is available.

I like my therm-a-rest compressible pillow. It works and I usually use a t-shirt for a pillowcase. If I need the shirt I can sleep without the pillowcase. I looked into something smaller but I didn't see any great options without going with an inflated pillow. Maybe I could try that one year but for the cost I don't see a reason to switch.
