quote giddyup: "What do you sell, MT? That's a good policy, maybe I need what you are selling?" As an artist I provide a very personal service. My philosophy is "if your not happy it's because you haven't called me" is just good business. Free Market Capitalism encourages a huge variety of choices one can make in the marketplace and when people understand they are not just a "means to an end" (I.e. Merely a paycheck) but are genuinely cared for and appreciated, they are far more likely to be a repeat customer and to recommend you and your product. In this day of social media companies like Salomon would be advised to provide better customer service.......you lose people one at a time. How many people are viewing this thread and are now having second thoughts about purchasing their product? |

quote mastertangler: "When my Meindel hiking boots went down I purchased Salomon for 20+ days on the very rugged "J" section of the PCT in Washington Cascades. Then they recently did double duty at Isle Royale. I couldn't be more pleased with performance and fit. They still look new. I have both of those too. So far they have been terrific. I use the hiking shoes at every opportunity. My boots have been through quite a bit of hard use even though I only got them this spring. I hope that I don't wind up in the same boat as Mr. Bad. |

Maybe OP just got a bum pair??? |

Based on that success I purchased their low cut x-ultra with the speed laces (tuck the excess underneath the line at the base of the tongue to keep everything organized) as my everyday knocking around shoes. Probably the best shoes I have ever owned........so far. Troubling to hear about companies which won't stand behind their product. They do themselves and their customers a disservice. |

I have been in business for over 35 years and I am unaware of a single person who is unhappy. Once you have my product you have me and it doesn't matter to me who broke it, wether the movers or painters or your drunk dinner guest. |

Just wanted to do a quick review of my Salomon 4D GTX hiking boots. I've had them for a little over 2 years. They are very comfortable. Offer great ankle support and feel very light. That's the good news. Now for the bad..... The rivets that hold the lace eyelets have started to pop off. 2 have broken in the last 2 weeks. I contacted Salomon and they said I needed to bring them to a cobbler to get fixed. They would do nothing. After contacting a few cobblers I've found that will cost between $80 and $100 to repair these boots. With no guarantee that the rest of the rivets won't simply do the same thing. I then contacted Salomon again and they basically told me I'm out of luck. Needless to say, I am not very happy with the customer service. I understand that the warranty ended after 2 years. But, you'd think they would be willing to do something to try and make this right. These boots set me back $280. I purchased them with assumption that they would last me a long time. Now, a couple of 5 cent rivets make them useless. Long story short..... Don't buy Salomon boots. |

Wear and tear on that item outside of the warranty period is to be expected, while repairs needed inside the warranty period are considered to be design or manufacturing defect. While I do give bonus points to companies who honor warranties after they expire or offer lifetime warranties on their wares, I can't blame them for choosing not to honor a long-expired warranty particularly on something like shoes that wear out quickly, and especially on hiking boots which take a beating and suffer through conditions that other shoes never see which could accelerate wear and tear. |

Not exactly good as new, but, I can wear them again. Let's just hope they last until the end of the Grand Portage in a couple weeks. |
