quote pswith5: "Hey Ken, does nalgene cap connector come with the unit?" The MSR Trailshot Bag, hose, valve, adapters/fittings, cap, were pieces I had and fitted to assemble a gravity system. Nalgeen bottle/bag cap is a spare, drilled out, a hose barb fitted, and epoxied in place. butthead |

quote fraxinus: The Trailshot filter looks like a winner too, how do you set it up as a gravity filter if you need to physically squeeze it to force water thru the filter, or do I have that part wrong. Pretty cool, at 5 oz it looks like a good thing to have in an emergency ditch kit. Thanks for the review. " I just remove the pre filter and connect to a bag with a bulkhead adapter, it flows real well not needing any pumping. A squeze or 2 will get the air out and start faster, but half the time I didn't need to pump at all. I fitted a short piece of the same diameter tube to a cap for folding Nalgeen canteens and do not worry about over flow, it just stops filling when full. The pre filter does plug fast in gravity use, but not in Trailsot regular use. The red and grey piece is the pre filter removed. butthead |

Big Agnes FlyCreek Platinum 2. 2pounds 2 ounces (with 8 stakes and polycro innie), small pack size except for 17 inch hubed pole set. Kept me dry throughout the various weather conditions, set up/take down fast. Single front entry I find uncomfortable for my age, all mesh interior was chilly to sit in in wind below 50 degrees, spacious for 1 person cramped if 2. Alocs canister stove (remote tank style). Packs small easy to assemble, can run with inverted canister due to fuel line preheat loop, very low simmer to medium high flame Flat 1 inch burner causes a hot spot in cook pots/pans. MSR Trailshot filter. One new gear item that will see a lot of my use. Easy to filter on the water, pumps with single hand delivering good flow. Used last 6 days as gravity with very good results. Filter itself cleans easily by shaking vigorusly, never had to backflush which can be done easily. Only trouble is the small prefilter clogged fast but flushed clean easily. butthead |

quote BWPaddler: "Fun to read about - is there a trip report I can find? " Trip report in a single file link is about all I'll do. It's a .kmz track best opened with Google Earth. 2017 Q/BWCA Canoe Trip butthead PS: Ken's Clown Car short version. I pack small, 45 pounds total for 2 packs, one pack at 2000 ci, other at 3200 ci. But seem to have more stuff than anyone else. bh |
