I have the Piragis "Our Best Yoke Pad" ( $75 now). Had it on the boat since 96 and never had an issue. Very comfortable.

Just got the Deluxe Portage Pads from Piragis. First impressions are good. I'll see how they do in the field.

I've used the Superior Portage Pads from Rutabaga as replacements for the scout canoes. And since boys are boys I backed the wing nuts with nylock nuts so the wing nuts ca be loosened to adjust the pad position, but reduces the opportunity for the wingnut to go missing at the wrong time.

I hate to sound like a grumpy old dude, but I'd say get rid of those pads. Buy, build or steal a yoke that fits. A yoke should carry the weight from shoulder to shoulder.

I bought these at Piragis, they're Wenonah Canoe sling style. I'm sure it's more me than the pads. I think the padded block style would be better for me but for now I have to use these.

If these clamp on the yoke, try moving them closer together. I have same yoke with the typical foam pads - outfitter basic - and after moving to center snd angling fronts out, found itvery comfortable and easy to balance hands free.

I have those pads and have used them for several trips. I'm not a big fan. I've tried moving them in several different positions and can't seem to get something that feels comfortable. I'm going back to padded blocks

Is there a front and back to these as my padded block style ones do have a front and back to them as the bolts are not set in identical from each end.

Also have a set of Superior pads(not sure if they are still made) that I put on my solo yoke. CB

" No negative comments at all, aside from the fact that they're not inexpensive; but you get what you pay for and I find them to be so much more comfortable than the sling pads which now sit in a box on the shelf. It's nice to be able to adjust the canoe on your shoulders when going up and down hills.

The sling pads just never did it for me, I changed over to the Bouroqin pads.
With that said, I agree with Jackfish the owner of the sling pads at Chosen Valley is a great guy contact him and see if you can adjust something or maybe he could add more padding.

Before kevlar, when aluminum canoes were the standard, we bought 3 inch foam and cut it to the shape of a "U" (think airplane pillow), and just tied it to our pack when not using it. May not be the best option, or what you're looking for, but it worked at the time and we noticed we could go much further before our shoulders started screaming.
Just a thought, and a potential alternative to new portage pads :)

These are the pads I have for my 48lbs solo canoe. Going on a trip next week just wondering if there's something I can add to these pads or something I can put on my shoulders to make portaging more comfortable.

Those appear to be pads made by Chosen Valley Canoe Accessories which I have on my canoes. They're comfortable for me, but everyone's shoulders are different.
Can you re-position them so they sit a little differently on your shoulders?
One other thing you could do is call Kevin (or his wife) at CVCA and ask for options. They also make portage pads that are thicker. Those may help. Tell them Jackfish sent you. :)
