The air valve was for pilots to be able to release pressure on the feet by opening the valve at high altitude. They had heated flight suits but not the boots.

I learned something. I thought that is how they stayed warm by injecting air.

Cabelas predators , own mine for over 10 years , i was just looking them up the other day i see the're $200 now , but an awesome pac boot.

In cold, dry snow areas, like the boreal forests of Minnesota and Canada, mukluks work well. They are light and warm. They allow your feet and toes to flex and move, which is what keeps them warm. They also allow your feet, which always sweat, to wick away the moisture
They are not suitable for wet snow areas, however, because they are designed to breathe and aren't water proof.

I love my Stegers and are in them a ton in winter, but also picked up a pair of Neos Navigators last year; can pair them with Stegers, just a liner, or an insulated hunting boot. I was convinced to try them after reading so many positive comments on the Sled Dog Central forum. I figured they would know.

The only thing I wonder about muklugs is in slush or wet conditions,I do see they make one with a rubber bottom now.

Got a pair of Arctic Excursion Muck Boots last year and absolutely think they are the best. Tough, on the lighter side, and keep my feet toasty warm.

Talked to a gentlemen living up the Gunflint and he loves his Steger Mukluks for snowshoeing.

That's a pretty good testimony! The Steger's are actually pretty darn reasonable in price, too. My old Brownings are falling apart and my Chota Muck boots are long gone, chucked into the dumpster at Iron Lake years ago. May be time to invest in some Steger Mukluks?

i worked outdoors many minnesota winters. sorel pak boots were standard gear. they suck to walk in though. i've also owned mickey mouse boots, white, they were OK, more of a novelty, also horrible for walking. another horrible boot i owned was a 1980 vintage koflach boots. great for alaska mountains using crampons, nothing else though. my goto winter boot are my leather asolo hiking boots, as long as i am active they are good enough for most minnesota winter weather, it's got to be stupid cold to get me to wear my sorels.
my kids both have steger mukluks. they love them. my son works outside in the mines on the iron range. the bottom of the taconite pits are easily the coldest places in minnesota.

Mickey Mouse boots are the air filled white bunny boots that Pinetree was referring to. The toe has a big rounded bulb that makes them look like Mickey's shoes.

I prefer the black Mickys as opposed to the white bunny’s because they are a bit more compact.
You can still buy new ones.

I bought a pair of Whites when I lived in Isabella and still have them.
Insulated liner but small enough you can get into a pair of snow shoes while wearing them.
Another plus is they can be rebuilt over and over.
Just send them into the Factory in Spokane Washington. Of course it costs money for a rebuild.

I have a almost identical boot made by Hoffman in Washington State. Excellent quality.

Baffin is a very well made boot. Love the waffle insole to get rid of moisture and the best lace up I have ever seen.
Wasn't to fond of the liner but I think I may have ordered too small. In time it was supposed to conform to your foot. What I have done is use the Baffin boot I have and replaced with another synthetic felt type liner and love the combination.
What is great about many Baffin boots is the insole and other bottom insulation. Much of your cold feet comes from the bottom up and many makers fail in this category.
I also know we have the Muklug lovers out there.

Another Keen user here. I’ve had mine forabout 5 years now and they work great whether it’s out snowshoeing in -20 degree weather in the SHT or blowing snow at home.

My wife has always had cold feet snowmobiling no matter what we paid for boots, got her a pair of Mickey Mouse boots two years ago has not had a problem since.

I had a pair of black Mickey Mouse boots issued by the Air Force. They worked great even with their heavy weight! I finally got a new pair of lacrosse ice king boots. They work fine although I retired from winter camping and I do not ice fish much anymore. Stay warm, it's chilly out today! Marc

I still have my La Crosse Iceman's. They are big, warm and did I mention big? Great for a cold morning in a deer stand, icefishing or when I'm plowing places that take a lot of shoveling during very cold days. I have a pair of Rockies I really like except they fell apart fast. For snowshoeing I like uninsulated boots with regular smart wool socks. Otherwise my feet get too hot.

It is hard to snowshoe in a big insulated boot. I do have a boot with a lighter liner and not so bulky for snowshoeing.

What keeps you warm and dry?
For decades Sorel boots were number 1 in Minnesota by far with its leather top and rubber bottom and a felt liner.
Had numerous Sorel boots over the years and they done me well. Even had one pair said they were good to -160 degrees F.. Well at -30 degrees F. my feet were cold.
Anyone especially the older Clan have any of those air filled white military bunny boots/ Growing up if you had a pair of those you had something special.
