2 of my multiple MSR bottles are almost 30 years old this year, have had no problems with the caps or O-rings going bad. If they did I would just buy another cap. They have had WG stored in them for most of those 30 years time span. After each trip I refill them for the next trip, ready to go.

I keep my fuel bottles topped off all the time, about a gallon and a half total. Never encountered a problem with the gaskets or fuel quality, but they do get regular use. Plastic used seem quite impervious, I also keep the pumps one MSR Standard, one MSR Dragonfly, another Primus Ergo in filled bottles. Guess I go thru 2 gallons of Coleman/Crown fuel in a year.
The largest contributor to fuel degradation is air (oxygen and ozone). I keep tanks filled to minimize the volume of air interacting with the fuel.

Never had a problem and have stored for several years at a time occasionally.

A number of years ago I saw a suitcase coleman stove on the curb with the rest of the garbage along with a tarp....so I grabbed them, put them in the shed and forgot about them. One afternoon I opened up the stove to look at. There was some fuel in it and the seals were good enough so I could pump it up. The thing started like it had just been used the day before. I was amazed.

I bought a couple of gallons jugs of Coleman stove fuel in 1999. I still have about a 2 quarts left. It is fine as far as I can tell. Not jelled, still very clear and not discolored. I also have stored fuel in MSR bottles long term without trouble.

Never had an issue here going a year or more in the MSR bottles. The big joint I bought is probably 5 years old or more and still good.

Get Viton o-rings at any hardware store. They come in standard and metric sizes. This is because they are made for high temp and fuels and oils.

Has anyone had issues storing white gas long-term in the msr fuel bottles? Aside from the fuel potentially degrading I'm just wondering if eventually the o-ring or plastic cap might break down or something...

I have a pop up camper, which I use maybe once a year. I use a Coleman double burner stove with this camper. Stored in the camper is a gallon of Coleman fuel which is probably close to ten years old. About every three years I refill the tank on the stove and I have never had an issue getting the fuel to work as intended, even as old as it is.

My actual bottles are at least 15 years old and seals are still good. Sorry was kind of the actual question asked.

I have had o rings break down over the years. Easy enough to replace, however.
