You give up it being freestanding but save a significant amount of weight. |

Something with at least a 30d silnylon floor or 70d in conventional nylon would be much better. If you're looking for the lightest you're probably looking at the silnylon so something like tarptent (I have a Double Rainbow and a Cloudburst 3, both are excellent), hilleberg, stephenson's warmlite, or even something in cuben fiber like the hyperlite ultamid. If it's just for canoe-camping you specifically called out a tent, but I would probably check out the CCS Lean as well. They might seem heavy until you look at the measurements and realize how big they are. ;) You didn't mention a budget. :) |

I’d add a protective floor with the dogs but I do that anyway...think innie. As previously mentioned there is a barely used one on sale here (not mine either) or new ones will be on sale in March 20-30% off at REI and Campsaver and other various stores. At least that has been the pattern for the last 3-4 years. T |

butthead: "With the mention of your dogs my first thought is a Lean 1+ or 2+ , CCS Leans. Light weight and no/partial floor to wreck. I have and love the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL4 tents, but with dogs in the equation I agree with Butthead that a CCS Lean would be a perfect choice. |

Bit more involved to setup but works very well! My Lean 1+, 2 people and 2 dogs would fit (tight). butthead |
