I wear them with my OTB's if the water temp is on the cool side. Once it gets warmer, they are a waste of time for me because my feet sweat and I wind up wet regardless. I've not have much of an issue with water overtopping them.

NotSoFast: "Have a pair that I wear w/my Keen sandals during shoulder season. Not sure whether they are actually waterproof, because we're "wet-footing," often in water over the top of our socks. They do add warmth, about the same as neoprene." +1, they are warm but I question whether they are waterproof as well.

I tried these out the past weekend on the Kinney in WI. Water was cold. I sprung a couple of pin-prick size leaks in my Chotas (which I can easily fix) but my feet stayed dry. The sealskinz were a bit wet outside so I know that they worked well. It's a good system.

I have a couple of pairs. They leak over the top. I do use them on trips during ankle biters season, as the buggers can’t penetrate them.
Tell me how your hippies do. I just bought a pair.

I used the sealskin socks inside of my Hippies- they kept my feet dry! not clammy at all. i highly recommend that combination with a light wool sock next to your foot

That's the system I'm looking to put together. The Hippies are pretty solid performers in the backcountry for me but I wanted another waterproof layer for some insulation and a back-up just in case moisture crept in.

Does anybody use these? I just bought a pair to wear under my chota hippies as a backup in case of moisture or a leak. They feel comfortable but the real test will be standing in knee-deep water fly fishing the Rush this upcoming weekend. Thoughts, experiences, opinions?

I hadn' t thought about mosquito protection but that's an added bonus!
