Being new to the form I've been spending quality time reading many past and present posts. I noticed that many members find good quality used canoes (Bell, Wenonah, Sawyer, etc). Where do they find these? Are there used canoe websites or swap events? I suppose living in canoe country provides more inventory, especially when outfitters sell their rental fleets. Living in eastern PA offers slim picking, even on Craigslist.

Try it this way: outfitter search

Yeah, it's hard to find much around here (WV) beyond the aluminum beasts, Ram-X's, and occasional OT Packs. At least you're close enough to NY to have a better selection within a few hours . . .

Usually symposia where others bring their boats and you can swap and play

There are a lot of these on water events in the East. There are at least three in the Adirondacks and there is the Wisconsin Canoe Symposium and the Midwest Canoe Symposium ( Ohio..you may consider that not the Midwest). The Western PA Solo Canoe Rendezvous

Eastern PA could be more difficult but there is plenty of opportunity in Western PA. I have some contacts in Eastern PA in Allentown. Western NY is a real hotbed of canoeing and also canoe building.

Paddling clubs can be a help..
There are a few in your area

all of my canoes have been used outfitter canoes.
my current 2 kevlar, solo and tandem, look newer, and i saved big bucks on them.
my royalex, from an outfitter, does the job on the rocky rivers, and i saved a grand!
maybe i had good timing on all of these, but the deals are out there, post season.
