Thermacell has a new one that is lithium battery/usb rechargeable. Might be an even better option if you aren’t already carying fuel canisters. I got one in my cairn box last month. It haven’t tested yet.

I'm thinking it might be a good thing in front of the tent before getting in. I like the idea of using the partial canisters too.

Great post. I purchased this unit last summer but didn't even open it until last weekend. It wouldn't stay lit. I did some research and found out that identified the problem and now have a Gen. 2 Backpacker out. I contacted Thermacell so we'll see what happens. I'm a big fan of their products.

Sounds promising, agreed on the almost empty fuel canisters too, great purpose for them!

Always an interesting read; bought it a few days ago and have been looking through it. A lot of interesting stuff in there. Anybody use the Thermacell backpacker Repeller yet?

Ya that issue is always a fun one to look thru and see what's new. I just got a catalog from Big Agnes yesterday showing new stuff in it. Not a fan of their sleeping bags but love their tents and sleeping pads.

I have one and used it last summer here in Kentucky. It seems to work pretty well and can run for a long time on a can of fuel. Its actually a good way to use up those leftover partially full fuel canisters. My only gripe is that it can be hard to find the refills in most stores.
