pswith5: "That's a good looking seat. Some will tell you it sits too high but if boat is stable that will work." Thanks! I’ve used similar seats for a long time. I’ve always found that as long as you’re in the middle of the boat, sitting high on the gunwales doesn’t really make you more unstable. Yes your center of gravity is higher but it’s also on the widest part of the boat.

Really nice design and execution. Many drop in seats will pull the gunnels towards the center of the boat when you sit on them and your design eliminates that problem. Nice.

Just thought I’d share the 3rd seat I made for my new boat. It works well for soloing the new boat or for a 3rd person. I’ve used it solo and for my kids. Brought it on our trip last week and it was perfect.

It sits on the gunwale and has cedar “pads” on the bottom so I t doesn’t hurt the gunwales. It wedges back into the gunwale by using cedar blocks cut at angles to match the angle of the gunwale. That holds it in place and It’s pretty snug when wedged in with a tap or two. If that sounds confusing you’ll see what I mean in the pics.... And it’s relatively easy to make :)
