Does anyone know if any of the Ely outfitters sell blue barrels with handles? Not looking to rent.
Going to be using our Ursack for BWCA this year, but the blue barrels will be handy for some of our other canoe trips. Figure might as well pick one up when we head that way in September.
Thanks

Search the web. You'll find a much lower price than buying from an outfitter. Also, I suggest a couple of These rather than a Blue Barrel. Easier access and more bear resistant.

You'd need to spend $240 on BV500's to achieve the same volume as a 30 l barrel (and less efficiently because it would be in multiple smaller containers). You'd need to buy $480 in BV500's to equal a 60 l barrel. Barrels are like $50-60. I value the bear resistance, but the economics suck.

As mentioned earlier, Piragis. I have four BV 500's and two Ursack AllMiteys. I'm bringing my my blue barrel this year.

Was going to ask how much the outfitters charge as I don't see prices on the ones I checked. Then I just found out boundarywaterscatalog.com is run by Piragis.
recreationalbarrelworks.com seems to be better even with $20-30 shipping.
We're going to use these more for base camping and where bears are less common. We have Ursacks so not interested in BV500 at this time. If we ever go somewhere where canisters are required we would probably get the ones from Wild Ideas.
Plus most peoples bear hangs are probably worse off than these non bear proof barrels.

If you have access to a Home Depot, it was recently discovered/discussed that they sell 30L blue barrels with lid & locking ring as cement mixing barrels. Might be a good option if you can avoid shipping charges.

I just got a Harmony 30L barrel from Backcountry for whatever they're selling it for and free 2-day shipping.
