Another option is to get a CCS Deluxe food pack. You can fit a 30L and even a 60L barrel comfortably in it with room left over for kitchen, stove, etc. That's what I bring.

I have the 60L CCS quad pocket barrel pack, so here is my 2 cents.
No, it wouldn't work with the 30L barrel. I just think it would be uncomfortable as hell, unless you really stuffed it full so it had some shape to it. The pad is pretty thin.

I would say go with the 60L pack with a 60L barrel instead. I use the large top pocket for raingear, and the two side pockets for Nalgene bottles. The side pockets with the bottles in them keep the pack from rocking around in the canoe.

My "pack plan" is for me and my daughter each in a solo canoe. We take two Kruger Sea Winds and two CCS packs. 1 60L pack with all the food and kitchen gear. 1 hybrid Guide pack with clothes, tent, sleeping bags, and all the soft stuff.

I stuff a lot of extra gear into my 60L barrel, which I carry with a CCS barrel pack. All my food, stove, pots, bowls, water bottles, first aid kit, etc.

I also use three of Dan's barrel bags in different colors to organize everything.

Anyone use the 30 Liter Harmony Blue Barrel and CCS Quad Pocket Pack setup for soloing a Magic?

I have a Magic Solo canoe and I am looking at this CCS Quad Pocket Pack and 30 Liter Harmony Blue Barrel. It looks like it may be a very tight fit especially with those pockets when placed toward the bow just ahead of front thwart.

The Quad Pocket Pack is 14 inches in diameter and the pockets are 3 1/2 inches wide (pockets are offset on the sides of the pack).

Looks like I will have to talk to Dan Cooke and do a bit of measuring. May have to go with the regular CCS 30 Liter barrel harness without the pockets.

HansSolo,

I appreciate you taking the time to put the Quad Pocket 30 Liter Barrel Pack into the bow of your Magic and posting pics.

Now that I know that it fits ... I will be calling Dan Cooke @ CCS and placing my order.

Here's a few pics Wally13 that may answer some of your questions about fit. CCS 30L Quad barrel pack & CCS Pioneer pack in my Northstar Magic.

Hi folks,

Kind of an interesting question I have here.

I’d like to get a 30 liter Blue Barrel and a dedicated pack to carry it. I’m looking at the CCS barrel packs.....of course. :)

So, here’s the question......

Would it work to get the CCS 60 litre barrel pack? I could then use the leftover space for my Kelty tarp, rain gear, current days food, etc. on top of the barrel?

Anyone ever try this?

Thanks,

Mr. B
