agree, and that is one of the issues I am facing. I don't mind rolling it back just a little.

Diego: "plmn: "If you happen to have an F-150 Crew with the 5.5' bed, be aware that the stake pockets aren't true pockets. They are just holes, there is no internal support.

Something that clamps to the holes or bed rails will still work but you'll probably need rails that run the length of the bed. I put on an Adarac, but I don't think you can buy it with just the rear support. Maybe you could if you called them. "

I can confirm this. On my 2014 F150 there were not even hole cutouts on the bed rail. I had to dremmel my own. I too went with the Adarac, primarily so that I could also utilize my tonneau cover. My main concern was wether there would be enough clearance for the bow of the canoe to clear the cab roof. There is, but just barely and this is a 18.5 ft SR canoe. I think I will be purchasing the 1.5 inch height extensions for peace of mind, but they are kind of ridiculously priced for what they are. "

my 2013 F150 has holes and support

Could this be another option?

Here is my DIY rack. Very easy and effective. Fits 2 canoes easily and I can travel while still using my tonneau cover which is a plus.

Thanks, I bought something like that yesterday-will give it a try.
I do think the home made 2 x 4 boards and it the slot holes looks more natural.

I secure rack to solid tie points in truck; it is not just sitting loose in pockets.

I use this as hitch extender, with canoe in bed of truck. I use shims to snug things up, and cut some pool noodles to cover over the uprights and beam canoe sits on. It's functional if one wants to haul canoe in bed of truck. I take it apart and lock in truck at landings. (re: Pinetree's canoe rack from Menards) (can also find at Amazon)

I picked it up at Menards,it sets up in less than a minute. Built strong. Down side it fits loose in the two-inch sleeve and sleeve on top is also not real tight. It will function as intended but could be better. I will think about if I keep it. The price at $88.00 is good.

Best? or best for the price? or best to use occasionally?

The 2x4's rack works for occasional usage but long trips can take a toll on them.

These are probably the best but pricey.
