Amazon has a great deal on the 6L Platypus Water filter right now. The 4L is only 25% off at around $100.

I've had great success with my platypus 4L gravity system. I don't have experience with the sawyer or MSR varieties, but this has been one of my favorite pieces of gear for the past 15 years.

Lifestraw mission all the way. It is a purifier meaning it gets everything out of the water unlike the average filter. Great for international traveling where you cannot trust drinking water. Its twice the size of many filters but i trust it especially when you only have warm pond water all around.

I have used this bag I got from amazon along with a sawyer filter the last two years. 6 liters makes a lot of clean water with very little work. Currently, the bag is $19, add a sawyer mini filter, and you have the whole system.
I generally filter into one of my Camelbak bags with a couple of quick connects, so when the bag is full, the back pressure stops the flow.

There are quick connection adapters available if you choose to simply replace the quick connect Sawyer water filter with a filter that does not have the quick connection fitting.

If you are replacing the whole system, then a Platypus, for sure. If you are just replacing the filter cartridge, then there are several. I have used the sawyer with good performance, it is a bit slower but filters to 1 micron instead of 2, is rated for MANY more gallons, comes with a back flush syringe which works better than reversing bags, is supposed to be built better as in it can take drops and abuse better than the Platypus cartridge, and is 1/2 or less the price. I believe most of the available filters would work fine as long as they fit the hose. If speed of filtering is important then stick to Platypus.

I’m getting ready to replace my 2L Sawyer filter after close to 10 years’ flawless service - it’s just getting too slow no matter how much flushing I do. I’m inclined to buy the same thing again, but I’ve not shopped or researched filters in a while, so I don’t know what the hot setup is today. Anyone care to sway me another direction?

I've used all three - Sawyer, Platypus, Versa Flow. You won't go wrong with any of them just replacing the filter.

Having a hard time finding a replacement filter for the Sawyer 4L gravity system. My grey and blue bag are fine, just need the filter. Want one that does not do viruses because of filter speed.
Anyone know of a replacement.

OldTripper: "Amazon has a great deal on the 6L Platypus Water filter right now. The 4L is only 25% off at around $100." That really is a steal.
Caveat: I have never had any luck purchasing replacement Platypus filters through Amazon. Packaging is scant and subjects the filter to rough handling, resulting in filters that fail the integrity test right out of the box. (Bought 2 at a time. Twice. Result: 4 failures.)

Pretty sure it's just a Sawyer Mini but a Squeeze will also fit the threads and flow faster.
