I'm looking for the best trip map for entry 16 up to iron and crooked....any recommendations for that trip. I don't remember what I used to use.

"Best" That's dangerous. I too use MaKenzie, and usually get them in 2 days (SE Mn) when I order from their web site.

I vote Voyageur, which you can purchase from BWCA.com, level of detail, quality of printing and accuracy surpass Fisher and McKenzie.

The best map is the one that has your entire route on 1 map. Personally, I like having multiple maps because they might show different details. If my buddy has a McKenzie then I'll grab a Voyageur. I often print off topo maps of the lakes we plan on staying at too and put them in the map case as well.

I always bring two: a Voyageur and either a Fisher or McKenzie. I have a clear Sealine map case, so I have each folded to the area I am traveling in. I can just flip it over.
All maps have inaccuracies...some are big discrepancies, some are not. But I like to have two sources of information in case one map is off.

Accuracy is better (it's printed right on the Fisher "not intended for navigation" (and then what is the purpose of said document), and the quality of the printing (sharpness, level of detail, choice of color/font- aesthetics) is unmatched. Much more appealing to the eye.

Stopped by REI today and picked up a Voyaguer map. I spent a little time this evening comparing it to my good old Fishers and Mckinzies. Like you said, I was very impressed by details like font, clarity of print, etc. I especially liked inclusion of past burn dates and perimeters.
Overall I was very impressed. I can’t comment on accuracy yet. The only two thing I’d do different would be to make the campsite triangles about 50% smaller or more, and make counties more obvious ( severe weather is always announced by county, but most maps do not show them).

A couple years ago I started using the True North cloth maps, and have found them to be my new go-to. I never seen them mentioned, so I must be the only one that likes them!
No map case, I just stuff it in my PFD pocket, and can easily pull it out to refer to it. No worries about it getting wet. If I'm in an area where I actually need it out (usually I just refer to it post-portage, identify a target and head towards it) during the paddle, I just hang it on the thwart in front of me.
Everybody trips differently, but I've been very pleased with the True North maps for what I do.

My personal preference is McKenzie Maps. They are sold on this site as well as at REI and other retailers, they are waterproof and they provide excellent detail. Depending on your route, look at maps 11, 12, 13 and 29.

Depends how what level of "zoom" you need for the map. I personally use Voyageur maps in the BWCA and Fisher Maps in the Quetico. I find McKenzie maps too "zoomed" in for my orientation.

I’m a McKenzie fan. The right balance of size between the voyageurs (too big, IMO) and fisher (too zoomed out, IMO).
It’s a matter of taste, they all work. I would grab what my outfitter has in stock and call it good
