I used the black Sharpie hack on the rivets of my canoe but that gunwales are another story. Has anyone had any success restoring the black finish to their anodized aluminum gunwales?

Our Old Town Columbia had black anodized gunwales. If I had made an effort to refinish them, it would have been in a lighter color--here in the southeast, black gunwales in mid-summer get uncomfortably hot!
