I solo and I don't think the 10x12 is overkill, especially given the additional coverage adds very little weight at1.1 oz per yard.n tht said i do like lots of proteted space and i am a "tarp geek". For more than two (and sometimes for two) I like to rig both tarps when base camping or if the weather is wet. We've used the 10x14 on a couple of trips. It works out really well rigged as a lean-to. |

Piragis has a sale running now through the end of the year. 20% off on online in stock items. Pretty good discount on a tarp available. Piragis |

Seems like I remember Dan saying here once that the 1.9 material is better if you are going to stake it down like I do with the 10x14? I have never had any issues with it being too big, just drop one side if needed. |

I picked up a 10X12, because they were out of 10X14, except for a black one. I didn't think I wanted to go 10x16 and I am worried black would be to hot. My group size is ussually 6, but I do want to do a solo. I was thinking of using the 10x12 for 1-4 and bring the guide with for the 6-8 group size. The CCS I know would tie up well. Then use the guide to add some extra feet. or Maybe I should get the 10x16 and us the guide for the 1-2. wait till spring and pick up a 10x14. I thought that I could get some opions of those that have used them. Jrlatt |

If you have 7-9 people and need a bit more tarp space, I'd opt for bringing the 10x14 plus a second, smaller tarp - 10x10 or so, rather than going with an even bigger tarp. |

quote OldScout48: "........ A friend mine had a 10 x 14 CCS and believe it or not he always had to work to find a good spot to hang his tarp." Yeah, probably because you were always standing in the way. |

I actually got that large a size because the ridgepole over the picnic table on camping sites here in the North Maine Woods is some nine -10 feet in the air and we found ourselves continually soaked with a 9x9 tarp. I have not regretted the bigger than needed area for one as I have the 1.1 oz fabric. Its no big deal to tote. I don't think you will regret getting bigger than you might think you need but too small may leave you unhappy at times. As I can double over the tarp and still hang it I can hang in small spaces. I have hung with trees about ten feet apart in Quebec. You can always rotate the tarp too. |

Absolutely! You can make a big tarp work in a tight area, but a small tarp cannot be made larger. butthead |
